She did it—her very first bird! 🐦🖤

Just look at this Windy Hill girl go! She searched the field, found her bird and proudly brought it back. She has been learning to listen, stay steady and become comfortable around shooting—and today all that practice paid off!

This is what Labradors were born to do, and we couldn’t be prouder of her or the wonderful work her family is putting into her. A bird dog in the making! 🐾❤️

🐾 Happy National Dog Day from Windy Hill Labradors! 🐾

Around here, dogs are so much more than pets — they’re family, hunting buddies, swimming partners, therapy companions, adventure sidekicks, and some of our very best friends. 🤎🖤💛

For more than a decade, Labradors have been such a huge part of our lives, and there’s nothing we love more than watching the puppies raised here grow into incredible family companions, therapy dogs, sporting partners, and loyal best friends.

Today we’re celebrating every muddy paw print, wagging tail, wet Labrador kiss, retrieving obsession, couch cuddle, and unforgettable memory they give us. 🐾

Happy National Dog Day to all of our Windy Hill dogs — past, present, and all the pups who have become part of families near and far. We’d love to see them!

❤️ BACK-TO-SCHOOL UPDATE — LOOK WHAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO! ❤️

A little while ago, I shared that we wanted to help a local family with two girls and one boy get ready for the new school year.

Well… this is what that turned into. 🥹🎒👟

New shoes, clothes, socks and back-to-school necessities for all three kids! Seeing everything laid out like this made my heart so happy.

This was about taking an opportunity we had through Windy Hill Labradors and turning it into something that could bless another family in our community.

I’m also incredibly thankful for everyone who shared our post, reached out, encouraged us, and helped spread the word. THIS is what a small community can do when we look out for one another. ❤️

Three kiddos are going into the school year with some fresh new things and, hopefully, feeling extra special and excited for that first day.

Sometimes you don’t have to change the whole world—you can simply make a difference in someone’s little corner of it. ❤️🐾

Because of that, 100% of the proceeds from her placement will be donated directly to this family.

American vs. English Labradors… but here’s the truth: they’re BOTH Labrador Retrievers. 🐾

One of the biggest misconceptions in the Labrador world is that there are “two breeds” or “two standards.” There aren’t.

The AKC, FCI, and Labrador Retriever Club recognize ONE breed and ONE breed standard: the Labrador Retriever.

Over the years, breeders have selectively emphasized different qualities depending on their goals. Some focused on producing exceptional hunting and field dogs, while others focused on producing dogs that excel in the conformation ring. The result is the familiar “American (Field)” and “English (Show)” styles we see today.

Neither style is “better” than the other.

✔️ Field-bred Labradors tend to be leaner, more athletic, and have higher drive for demanding work.
✔️ Show-bred Labradors tend to have a stockier build, heavier bone, and are bred to meet the written breed standard in the show ring.

What matters most isn’t whether a Labrador is called “American” or “English.” It’s responsible breeding, sound structure, excellent health testing, stable temperament, and choosing the dog that best fits your lifestyle.

🤎 A Breeder’s Heart Couldn’t Be Prouder. 🤎

One of the greatest joys of being a breeder isn’t just sending puppies home—it’s watching them grow into everything they were meant to be.

This beautiful chocolate girl, bred here at Windy Hill Labradors, is currently training with Southern Traditions Retrievers LLC, and we recently received an exciting update on her progress from her owners Katlin Johnson. Seeing her confidence, drive, intelligence, and natural retrieving instincts come to life is incredibly rewarding.

At Windy Hill Labradors, our goal has always been to produce Labradors with exceptional health, sound temperaments, and the versatility to excel—whether that’s as a beloved family companion, a hunting partner, a sporting dog, or in other working roles.

Every puppy’s journey is unique, and their success comes from the dedication of their owners and trainers. We are so grateful to this family for investing in her and giving her the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Moments like this remind us why we are so passionate about preserving and improving this incredible breed.

🎓🦆 Maggie Update from Windy Hill Labradors 🦆🎓

We absolutely love receiving updates from our puppy families, and this one makes us so proud!

Sweet Maggie is currently attending Duck Dog School with Southern Traditions Retrievers LLC, and she is already showing off that classic Labrador personality and drive. Just look at that smile! ❤️

At Windy Hill Labradors, our goal has always been to produce puppies with the temperament, intelligence, and natural instincts to excel as family companions and in activities such as hunting, retrieving, therapy work, and sporting events. Watching Maggie begin her journey in professional retriever training is incredibly rewarding.

We can’t wait to follow along and see all the amazing things this girl accomplishes. Keep making us proud, Maggie! 🐾💕
