What a proud Windy Hill Labradors moment! 🖤

We received the best update from one of our past puppy families: Sprig went on his first big hunt and made 21 RETRIEVALS! 🎉🦆

We’re so proud of this boy and grateful to his family for sharing his big day with us. It’s wonderful to see one of our pups doing what Labradors were bred to do—and loving every minute of it!

Way to go, Sprig! 🐾

🐾 Something special may be coming to Windy Hill this winter! ❄️

We recently had a successful breeding, and if our girl took, we could be welcoming a beautiful litter of Labrador puppies around Christmas! 🎄🐶 Pregnancy has not been confirmed yet, but we are cautiously excited and hopeful.

At Windy Hill Labradors, our puppies are family-raised with a focus on health, wonderful temperaments, early socialization, and preparing them to become loving family companions, therapy/service prospects, or sporting partners. Our parent dogs are health and DNA tested, and we are proud members of the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program.

If you would like to be considered for this potential winter litter, please send us a message with your preferred gender and color. We’ll share updates as soon as we know more! 🤎🖤💛

Who else thinks Christmas puppies would be the sweetest gift of all? 🎄🐾

She did it—her very first bird! 🐦🖤

Just look at this Windy Hill girl go! She searched the field, found her bird and proudly brought it back. She has been learning to listen, stay steady and become comfortable around shooting—and today all that practice paid off!

This is what Labradors were born to do, and we couldn’t be prouder of her or the wonderful work her family is putting into her. A bird dog in the making! 🐾❤️

🐾 Happy National Dog Day from Windy Hill Labradors! 🐾

Around here, dogs are so much more than pets — they’re family, hunting buddies, swimming partners, therapy companions, adventure sidekicks, and some of our very best friends. 🤎🖤💛

For more than a decade, Labradors have been such a huge part of our lives, and there’s nothing we love more than watching the puppies raised here grow into incredible family companions, therapy dogs, sporting partners, and loyal best friends.

Today we’re celebrating every muddy paw print, wagging tail, wet Labrador kiss, retrieving obsession, couch cuddle, and unforgettable memory they give us. 🐾

Happy National Dog Day to all of our Windy Hill dogs — past, present, and all the pups who have become part of families near and far. We’d love to see them!

📸 Drop a picture of your Windy Hill Labrador in the comments so we can celebrate them today! 💛🤎🖤

❤️ BACK-TO-SCHOOL UPDATE — LOOK WHAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO! ❤️

A little while ago, I shared that we wanted to help a local family with two girls and one boy get ready for the new school year.

Well… this is what that turned into. 🥹🎒👟

New shoes, clothes, socks and back-to-school necessities for all three kids! Seeing everything laid out like this made my heart so happy.

This was about taking an opportunity we had through Windy Hill Labradors and turning it into something that could bless another family in our community.

I’m also incredibly thankful for everyone who shared our post, reached out, encouraged us, and helped spread the word. THIS is what a small community can do when we look out for one another. ❤️

Three kiddos are going into the school year with some fresh new things and, hopefully, feeling extra special and excited for that first day.

Sometimes you don’t have to change the whole world—you can simply make a difference in someone’s little corner of it. ❤️🐾

Thank you for helping us make this possible.

We still have one beautiful chocolate female Labrador available 🐾🤎

This sweet girl is not only looking for the perfect forever home—but she also has the chance to make a real difference. It recently came to my attention that a local family with two young girls and one little boy could truly use some help with back-to-school supplies, clothing, and shoes.

Because of that, 100% of the proceeds from her placement will be donated directly to this family.

Our goal is simple: find this smart, loving puppy the best home possible while also supporting a family in need—a true win-win 💛

Please help us spread the word—share this post, tag someone who may be looking, or reach out if you feel like she could be the perfect addition to your family.

“Some puppies steal your heart without even trying. 🖤 One tiny blep, one peaceful nap, and this sweet little soul has us completely wrapped around those little paws. These are the moments that make raising Labradors so incredibly rewarding.

American vs. English Labradors… but here’s the truth: they’re BOTH Labrador Retrievers. 🐾

One of the biggest misconceptions in the Labrador world is that there are “two breeds” or “two standards.” There aren’t.

The AKC, FCI, and Labrador Retriever Club recognize ONE breed and ONE breed standard: the Labrador Retriever.

Over the years, breeders have selectively emphasized different qualities depending on their goals. Some focused on producing exceptional hunting and field dogs, while others focused on producing dogs that excel in the conformation ring. The result is the familiar “American (Field)” and “English (Show)” styles we see today.

Neither style is “better” than the other.

✔️ Field-bred Labradors tend to be leaner, more athletic, and have higher drive for demanding work.
✔️ Show-bred Labradors tend to have a stockier build, heavier bone, and are bred to meet the written breed standard in the show ring.

What matters most isn’t whether a Labrador is called “American” or “English.” It’s responsible breeding, sound structure, excellent health testing, stable temperament, and choosing the dog that best fits your lifestyle.

At River Retrievers, we believe in preserving everything that makes the Labrador Retriever the world’s favorite sporting and family companion—intelligence, versatility, trainability, and an exceptional temperament.

❤️ Different styles. Same breed. Same heart.

What style do you prefer, and why? Tell us in the comments!

🤎 A Breeder’s Heart Couldn’t Be Prouder. 🤎

One of the greatest joys of being a breeder isn’t just sending puppies home—it’s watching them grow into everything they were meant to be.

This beautiful chocolate girl, bred here at Windy Hill Labradors, is currently training with Southern Traditions Retrievers LLC, and we recently received an exciting update on her progress from her owners Katlin Johnson. Seeing her confidence, drive, intelligence, and natural retrieving instincts come to life is incredibly rewarding.

At Windy Hill Labradors, our goal has always been to produce Labradors with exceptional health, sound temperaments, and the versatility to excel—whether that’s as a beloved family companion, a hunting partner, a sporting dog, or in other working roles.

Every puppy’s journey is unique, and their success comes from the dedication of their owners and trainers. We are so grateful to this family for investing in her and giving her the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Moments like this remind us why we are so passionate about preserving and improving this incredible breed.

Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of her story. We can’t wait to watch what she accomplishes next! 🤎🐾
