Please, for the love of dogs!

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, VETERINARIANS… I AM SPEAKING TO YOU! 🐾😂

The amazing, the talented, the highly educated professionals who went to school for what seems like FOREVER to learn how to care for our dogs and cats.

WE LOVE YALL! 🫶🏻

I have ONE request.

PLEASE START TATTOOING FEMALES WHEN YOU SPAY THEM! 🙏

Y’all, I am in rescue. Spay and neuter is one of our biggest priorities. And do you know how much money shelters and rescues waste having female dogs opened up during surgery, only to discover they’re ALREADY SPAYED?!

Money we DO NOT HAVE TO WASTE!

Shelters are already operating on shoestring budgets. Rescues aren’t exactly rolling in cash either. And when a female comes in with no records, no visible scar, and no indication she’s been spayed, somebody has to figure it out.

And sometimes that means surgery on a dog that never needed it in the first place.

We still have to PAY for that surgery, even when there’s nothing to remove! Not to mention putting that dog through anesthesia and an unnecessary surgical procedure.

Dr. Ziegler, one of the many wonderful veterinarians who help us at The Grit Factor and someone we’ve worked with for 20 years, puts a tiny green line on females when she spays them.

THAT’S IT. A LITTLE GREEN LINE!

I’m not asking y’all to become tattoo artists. I’m not asking you to tattoo “I ❤️ MY MOM” across their bellies. I’m not asking for a butterfly, a tramp stamp, or a whole sleeve. 😂

I’m asking for one little mark that could save a shelter or rescue money and potentially save a dog from an unnecessary surgery.

And here’s the thing. I would GLADLY pay an extra $10 for that little tattoo today rather than pay another $150 down the road for somebody to open that dog up just to discover she’s already spayed!

That’s not even a hard decision!

Now, here’s where I’m genuinely curious.

If you’re a veterinarian who does NOT routinely tattoo females after spaying them, PLEASE tell me why.

Is there a medical reason? Is there a liability concern? Is it simply not something you were taught to do? Is there something I’m missing?

Because I genuinely want to understand.

This isn’t about criticizing veterinarians. Lord knows rescue couldn’t function without y’all. We have several amazing veterinarians who help us, and we’re grateful for every one of them.

This is about preventing unnecessary procedures, protecting animals, and saving money that shelters and rescues desperately need for the NEXT animal.

One tiny green line can make a BIG difference.

Veterinarians, I’m all ears. Educate me!
