Welcome, Bullet, to the Freedom program.
He came to me from North Florida as a special case.

This guy is 1-2 years old and about 80% blind, according to ophthalmology vets at the University of Florida who study and monitor his condition. Official diagnosis for both eyes: cataract, microphakia, retinal dysplasia - folds, microphthalmia, persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous.

Although he’s navigating somewhat at the moment, the prognosis is blindness. I will incorporate a lot of practical applications of nose work into his program to help him and his family navigate as he lives his life.

As it often happens, because of his disability, his family has allowed him to do whatever he wanted until living with him got to almost impossible.

I have to say, he is the most feral German Shepherd I've ever seen. He lacks basic concepts and emotional regulation. Anxiety- and disrespect-rooted behaviors are extreme.

He has been with me for three days now, and I have to say, once I unravel all this mess, I wholeheartedly believe that he will progress on a completely normal trajectory and his disability will have very little impact on his progress.

I started with him learning his name and imprinting the target odor, and he loves working!

These two are non-stop. Spartan is very well socialized and has stayed with me and trained with me since he was a puppy. Love their dynamic.

Klëpa is the only one who is taking advantage of the situation… everybody else here is like

NOPE 👎
I will wait to p**p until it’s literally coming out of my butt…. Then it doesn’t matter where it is…
Ain’t no way I’m going anywhere near that water

I screwed her up by spending months working on my own early shot-calling skills during blind searches, rather than waiting for her wonderful freeze. I returned to the original standards… and then last time I ran her partially without training equipment… so biting at the hides started. I worked at home on freeze but it wasn’t enough for her to give it up and we had to work it out in normal setting… it isn’t over yet, but she is smart and loves to resolve conflicts🐾❤️

It took three years for Mako and Klëpa to figure out how to be successful at the whole friendship thing… Mako is a very soft old man and Klëpa was way too much for him. But during the last long stay, they finally clicked. Wishing many more happy years of playing ahead!!!!
