🚨 EMERGENCY MYTH vs. FACT 🐾
MYTH:
“My pet seems okay, so I can wait until tomorrow.”
FACT:
Pets are incredibly good at hiding pain and illness. By the time you notice obvious changes, a problem may already be more serious than it appears.
A pet who is still wagging their tail, eating a little, or acting mostly normal isn't necessarily out of danger.
Some emergencies can worsen quickly — and early intervention can make a significant difference.
⚠️ Signs that should never be ignored include:
• Difficulty breathing or abnormal breathing
• Repeated vomiting or diarrhea, especially with blood
• Collapse, weakness, or inability to stand
• Pale, white, gray, or blue gums
• Seizures or sudden neurologic changes
• Severe or unexplained pain
• A swollen, distended, or painful abdomen
• Difficulty urinating or inability to urinate
• Significant bleeding or traumatic injury
• Suspected toxin or medication ingestion
• Sudden changes in behavior or responsiveness
🩺 The bottom line:
If your pet is showing something that feels “not quite right,” trust your instincts. It is always better to have an emergency team evaluate your pet and determine that they are okay than to wait and discover that the situation has become critical.
At VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists, our Emergency & Critical Care team is here 24/7, 365 days a year to help when your pet needs immediate attention.
Because when it comes to emergencies, “wait and see” isn't always the safest plan.
