Happy Mother’s Day to the horse show moms.
The ones who wake their kids up before the sun rises, packing the car in the dark so they can make it to the show on time. The ones who sit with a sleepy, grumpy kid on the way there, and watch that same kid light up the moment they see their horse. Who spend most of the day hurrying up just to wait. Getting dressed, getting ready, only to sit in a chair for hours until their next class. The moms who stay long past when they thought they’d be home, exhausted, sunburned, and still setting an alarm to do it all again tomorrow. And somehow always show up with snacks, because they already knew their kid wouldn’t eat, and honestly, neither would the trainer.
Thank you for keeping the show clothes spotless and organized, for knowing exactly where the extra bobby pins are and their kids favorite sparkly pins.
Thank you for standing at the in-gate with your heart in your throat, and for being the first face they look for when it’s over whether it was their best round or their hardest one. You dry the tears and you jump for joy, sometimes in the same afternoon.
You don’t do this for the awards. You do it because you’d do anything to be a part of something that lights your kid up from the inside.
Nobody calls your name over the loudspeaker. Nobody pins a ribbon on you. But none of it happens without you.
Happy Mother’s Day. You are the backbone of every barn kid, and the best part of every show.
