Kira the Malinois!

This spicy little lady has been doing private lessons for the past two months here with us at Macho K9! We are excited to introduce her to the pack!!

Kira originally came in for an evaluation a few years ago where I met her for the first time as a tiny baby. We also trained her littermate, Morty, last year! Today, she is a grown lady that has been dealt a hard hand over that time. From fracturing her foot & being on crate rest for months with limited activity, to some negative interactions with people & dogs. She now keeps her bubble small & struggles when anyone or anything that enters that bubble!

Most of her lessons have been just getting to know me again, feeling comfortable at the facility, & slowly starting to rebuild a foundation of trust & guidance outside of her parents! She is always showing off all of her amazing obedience skills every lesson, in typical Malinois show-off fashion.

We have been loving having Kira around again! She is truly so intelligent & willing to learn! We are pleased to have her amazing family here & trusting us on this journey!

It’s SPOOKY season and we have a couple of fun events up our sleeves! 👻

1st! This Thursday we will be at Natural Pet Center | Pet Food & Supplies in Fargo, ND for Trunk or Treat! We may have some fun prizes to win!😉😉

2nd! Next Thursday, it’s Halloween Pack Class! We will be having a costume contest with a trophy for the winner, which we will vote for on social media! They will also get a prize but that will be a surprise! 😎 *client exclusive*

Welcome Miss Xena!!

This little lady is a 4 month old Belgian Malinois! You’ll often see her on Mondays for her weekly Day Training day or Private Lessons!

A month before her arrival, Xena’s dad reached out to us & wanted a set in stone game plan, based off our recommendations, for his new Malinois puppy! He did a ton of research for over a year prior to getting Xena, but quickly started to feel overwhelmed with all the information he was getting. Then he found us!

We created a training program that best fits Xena & her family! They want to be heavily involved with all of her training, so we primarily work together through private lessons. However, they also wanted Xena to build a relationship with us & our facility! That means we get to spend all day with her, every Monday!

Our goals right now with her are working on her obedience foundations & luring, neutrality & engagement with us in any & all environments, building markers/communication system, proper play, & most importantly with every dog we work with, SETTLING SKILLS!

Xena is still very much a Malinois puppy, but we are so excited to be a part of the long haul with these guys! They have such great expectations for her & we cannot wait to watch her become the best version of herself with her wonderful family!

We are so proud of our very own Knox, now called Chico!

Trainer Hannah raised this boy & put all of his foundation work in over the last few months. From everyday life skills, obedience, self regulation, all the way to narcotic detection, Trainer Hannah DID THAT!

Over the last few weeks we have been helping out Chico & his new handler learn one another & progress their skills, TOGETHER, through their weekly lessons! His handler is truly amazing & loves Chico so so so much!

He has officially graduated & has now been introduced to his new police department! We know he is going to do such great things for his community.

Congratulations Boogie! We love you!! & congratulations to Trainer Hannah for doing such great work with raising him! 🖤🎉

It’s time we introduce you to Montana!

Montana is one of the sweetest, happiest dogs you will ever meet, until he sees a dog… then all of that goes out the window!

When Montana came in for his evaluation his mom had already muzzled trained him! 👏 This was something we would have had her to do asap so taking the initiative was awesome!

During private lesson we have been building up his engagement, understanding of leash pressure, obedience skills and most importantly counter conditioning his feeling towards dogs.

It’s been a journey with Mr Montana and we are going to keep at it as his big feels are still present but his ability to do life grows with every lesson! The work him and his mom put in between lessons is amazing!

We have also been exploring different outlets for Montana to ensure his needs are met mentally and physically! He’s learning how to play flirt pole, loves a game of tug, training with his mom and soon we are starting treadmill training!

We are so proud of you too! We know it’s not easy so give yourself a pat on the back for the work you have put in!

Hello Miss Murphy!

This cutie is almost done with her lesson package and it’s time we introduce her sweet face to you!

Murphy’s mom got her started with lessons at 4 months old to build behaviors and have the skills to help her live her best life! The ultimate goal for Murphy was to prevent any behavioral issues!

Murphy was born and raise in the shelter so her start to life was a bit rough so confidence building and a communication system are super helpful when helping her navigate life!

Now that we have built that we are building up the skills for her to have off leash freedom, especially at the lake!

Warm Welcome Winston!

Winston joined us for training last week & we have really fell in love with this little guy! The first week of training was all about building a strong relationship & trust. This meant lots of snuggle time, lots of play & treats, & lots of sniff walks/exploring. Now on week two, we are building those markers, working on engagement, & starting to slowly add in some duration tether time around distractions!

His mom brought him in for an evaluation asking for a little help getting him to settle around the house, as well as stopping the barking in the kennel… allegedly this tiny boy barked non-stop while his mom was at work! Winston also was even hesitant to take treats from Trainer Hailey & Trainer Hannah during his evaluation. However, we are quite literally some of his favorite people on the world!

While Winston is with us, we will be working on building his confidence, teaching him an “off-switch” & proper outlets to help fulfill him, neutrality, & showing him that even though the world is so big, we will always be right by his side!

We can’t wait to show off just how far Winston will go! 🖤🖤🖤

Hi Olive!

This little cutie is in for training so she can be the best version of herself!

Her parents did great laying a foundation with her puppy skills so we are here to polish them up and build a reliable recall so she can go hunting this fall!

Olive is a 8 month old lab GSP mix! She is a sweetie with a little bit of sass and a lot of smarts!

Over the past two weeks we have been building up her engagement, climb, leash manners, confidence and started working on recall! Over the next three weeks we will layer in remote collar and continue building, proofing and generalizing her skills!

Stay tuned to the stories for more of this cute face! We can’t wait to watch her and her family continue to tackle the world together!

Controversial opinion 👀
You shouldn’t continuously need multiple training programs to achieve the goals you have for your dog!

As professional dog trainers we are always here for you and your dogs- BUT this does not mean we should always be looking for an opportunity to sell you more training, especially immersive programs.

If your trainer is continuously recommending more training programs, especially those at a significant cost, that is a HUGE red flag!

One of the things that stuck out to me attending Beta Dog Training seminar a few years ago was the idea that,
after training your dog, we hope we don’t have to see you again.

NOT because they/we don’t love your dog(s) but because the work should have been done the first time. The dog & handler should be set up for success to handle life past the original training program!

Follow up classes such as pack class, are there to work on your skills in a controlled setting, make minor tweaks to handling and, especially, building YOUR confidence as a handler!

We are always here for any questions you may have post training, and we always love seeing dogs for daycare to help fulfill and enrich them! But again, your dog should not need multiple immersive training programs at a high cost to you.

And yes, we are a small business. We have to make money to survive, that’s just a fact of life.

Even still, we will not create a program that requires seeking out multiple rounds of training to maintain progress.

Our goal is to give you the tools, knowledge, and confidence to succeed without needing to rely on us forever!

BUT we do hope to see you for daycare, boarding and pack walks as we value the connections we make with you & your dog, and love to continue seeing them! And as always, if you ever have any questions, shoot us a message! 😊

(The dogs never share kennels but Blanche and Rosie hopped in this one together so we had to get a picture, aren’t they the most adorable sister duo!)
