Hi all, Jen asked me to post with some info regarding the grain-free food scare. First of all, I read the FDA details so far. Dogs and cats combined account for 119 deaths from Dilated Cardiomyopathy, which they say have strong correlation, over the past 5 years. Their "strong correlation" is not well defined. So, we are talking about the possible existence of a needle in a haystack.
That said, I have long believed that using two different food sources is a great idea for many reasons and now might be a great time to take up that practice. Using two different dog foods or one bag food along with some raw or home cooked diet gives you insulation from recalls, a broader array of nutrients and the flexibility to lean on one or the other of your food sources in the event of a shortage.
As always, let's avoid corn, wheat and soy. Here are some good options from Chewy to consider.
