October Weekend Workshops Update:

Gamble 1- Oct. 17 is cancelled.

Gamble 2- Oct 24 is scheduled to happen.
🍁I am hoping our Oct. weather will hold out for one more workshop to be held outdoors. There is still room in this workshop. You don't have to be a good distance handler to participate. Working on Gamble skills now will help you know what to train for the future. All levels welcome.

📦Box Work Introduction- Oct. 31 will be held inside. (Spaces still available) All levels welcome.
❓Don't have a box, no worries. I am working on that!
🐾🐾This introduction will prepare dogs and handlers for more Box Work throughout the year. This addition to agility training is growing in the US. Don’t pass on this incredible opportunity to introduce your dog to more efficient jumping mechanics.
😁I am very excited to introduce Box training. I have been working with Sequence on a jumping program for a year now, which has included Box Work. I am also taking an online class that takes the Box Work further. I can attest to how valuable this training has been in improving Sequence's jumping. This valuable topic will help all our dogs to be better jumpers by teaching them efficient mechanics to help them through their agility career.
Enjoy this short video of some of the introduction work with the box. I can't wait to provide more training with the box throughout the year. Fall/Winter is the best time to begin this training, since space is limited and our busy trialing season is behind us.

Updates on a few things:

👚👚Aussie Acres Teeshirts: I will be placing a new order by the 16th. If you missed the first order, now's your chance. I am looking to have enough to get a cheaper price. If you want long sleeve instead of short, let me know that too. PM with your order.

🐾🐾UKI Stay Home Trial: I will be offering SS only this time. It will be set up outside in the small ring. The began on the 7th. You have until the 12. It will be available from Oct. 15-26.

🍁🍂Weekend Workshops:

The deadline to sign up for the Gamble 1 workshop is Oct. 14. If there is not enough interest it will be cancelled. Right now it's is looking very unlikely that it will be held. So if you are waiting to decide to come, you might just be out of luck. If you know someone who may be interested, let them know.

Aussie Acres Agility is moving into Fall🍁🍂🍃🍁🍂🍃🍁🍂🍃🍁🍂🍃🍁

I still can't believe summer is over and Fall has arrived. The cool temps, wind and decreasing daylight are coming on fast!

Aussie Acres had a great summer: students got a lot of training in and it was wonderful to see so many participate in the UKI trial! I made it to Colorado for my ASCA Nationals, enjoyed great results, and now am home preparing our Fall/Winter training.

Our outdoor training days are numbered, but no fear we have the Aussie Acres Arena to continue our Winter training without any interruption.

As I make plans for classes to be shifting to the Arena, I am also working to make plans for starting up Weekend Workshops again. Weekend Workshops are short training sessions geared toward a specific topic. The October schedule is ambitious, but I am excited to get going on the topics I have lined up. I hope you will consider attending some of them to foster your agility skills.

The first two workshops will focus on helping handlers better understand the game called Gamble. In the past weeks, I have run 11 ASCA GambIes. In my experience they are the most challenging Gamble of all the venues. The workshop will be broken up into 2 parts. One with a focus on the Opening (point accumulation portion of the Gamble) and the second workshop emphasizing skills important for completing the Gamble itself. I realize it's short notice, but hope you will consider coming out for these training sessions. If you are not ready for doing a Gamble, no worries!!!! Skills can be adjusted to meet your dog's skill level.

🍁🍁Saturday Oct. 17:
Gamble skills #1- Opening point accumulation period.

The focus of this workshop is to learn how to have an efficient (for the dog and handler) plan for point accumulation in the Opening period of the Gamble. Gamble courses are not usually set up for optimum flow; so how do you make it work for you and your dog. Also planning the opening so that your timing allows for an easy transition to the closing. This workshop will be held outdoors (dress for the weather).

Participation limited to 6 teams (min. 4), cost $50. Session will run from 11-2

🍂🍂Saturday Oct. 24:
Gamble skills #2- Handling skills for the closing or "Gamble"

This workshop will focus on the Gamble or "closing". What skills does a handler team need to be successful in the completing and Gamble successfully. Several Gamble closings will be presented for practice. This workshop will not run full Gamble courses. Weather permitting, this workshop will be held outdoors.

Participation limited to 6 teams (min. 4), cost $50. Session will run from 11-2

🎃🎃Saturday Oct. 31: Introduction to the Jump Box

Jump box training is growing across the US (it has already been used in Europe for quite some time). The Jump box is a wonderful new tool to have. It helps your dog learn proper weight shifting and the mechanics for efficient jumping (for both take off and landing). I have been using it myself for the past year and have seen the benefits in Sequence's jumping skills. During this workshop, I hope to help handlers understand the beginnings of jump box work and the importance to teach proper jumping education. I hope this will be the first of many Jump Box training workshops.

Participation limited to 6 (min.4) , cost $50. Session will run from 11-2

Rally/Obedience training with Kate continues at Aussie Acres this fall with a Oct/Nov class

Rally Your Way will be at 10am on Wednesdays starting October 14th. This class will be open to teams working at all levels and will have nested courses based on the needs of the teams. Prerequisites: sit, down, short stay.

Kate grew up training and showing dogs in a variety of sports. In obedience she has earned two (CDX) Companion Dog Excellent titles (and hopes to one day get a UD!), and in Rally she has earned one Rally Championship (RACH) and is working on two more. When not training for competitive sports, she and her dogs love trick training, going for long walks, and sharing snacks.

Home Sweet Home! Back where the Aussies roam!

We have settled back in at home; unpacked, did laundry, cleaned up the house, built a course for classes, and of course took a picture of all our ribbons! After a whirlwind 2 weeks: traveled 4,000 miles, spent 3 1/2 days on the road each way, saw some fun sites along the way, played 6 days of agility, saw old friends, make new friends, enjoyed the company of the Aussie community and enjoyed watching the Versatility of the Australian Shepard. What a tremendously wonderful experience.

I went to ASCA Nationals without any high expectations. I went for the experience and fun, and to see where are training was. What we came away with was just WOW, and it was FUN!

This was Solar's fourth time running in Finals (6x qualifying), and it was Sequence's first. I was blown away by the results my two boys gave me and am still on Cloud 9. It's an huge feat to get 1 dog to finish in the top 10 of Finals, let alone 2.
I am so so so proud.

🥉🏆Solar 3rd place in Veteran's Finals (of 45 dogs qualifying to compete)
👏🏆Sequence 6th place in Standard Finals (of 60 dogs qualifying to compete)

Then there was ASCA Nationals. Nationals are open to anyone and dogs can compete in Novice, Open and Elite. Only the top dog in each category receives prize and ribbon recognition; so it's a great honor to finish 1st. Results are tallied so that you can see your overall placement.

🥉🏆Solar continued to be my rock STAR and finished 3rd in Veterans Nationals with 6/6 clean runs and only 1 1/2 seconds off of first place. He definitely showed that he is the Champ I know he is!

🐾🐾Sequence's Nationals showed us some holes in our training, and gave me some good homework to take home and get to work on. He will be ready for the next one for sure!! We both will!!! He and I continue to grow as a team in every trial we attend. I have a lot to learn about what he is thinking and how I can help him to understand the path I want him to take.

The boys worked hard in every run; from pre-shows to Finals to Nationals. I also worked as hard as I could to be the best partner. I learned what worked well and kept an open mind when it didn't work well (those are the lessons to learn from).

Our dogs are teachers, and we are the students. If you keep this in mind, you will learn so much from them. Dogs are amazing animals! Their understanding and responsiveness to us humans cannot be understated.

Here is a little story that shows how connected we are as handlers and competitors: During a walk thru in one Nationals course, a handler was looking for advice on a challenging sequence. I told her to have patience in that handling element, nothing that I would not have told any one of my students. Later, I was thrilled to hear that she managed it and qualified. For the rest of the Nationals, this handler would come up to me and reiterate "have patience"(my words to her). It was helpful and meant a lot to her and it said a lot to me!

Love them 🐾🐾❤️, understand them and have Patience!!!! They do this for us every moment and every day.
You could at least return the honor!

ASCA Nationals 2026 is over, but my memory of this experience will last forever.

So proud of my hard working boys. Solar and Sequence traveled more than 1/2 way across the country to play this game with me and give it there all every minute for me. I couldn’t love them more🥰🥰

Solar was Mr. consistent this week:

🥉🏆3rd in ASCA 2026 Nationals Veteran Division
🥉🏆3rd in ASCA 2026 Agility Veteran Finals
Ran clean in 17/18 runs this week (don’t tell him it was my fault that he didn’t get that pre-show gamble Q).

Sequence:
🐾🐾Nationals were not our thing, but we had a blast and worked hard in every run! As always we learn from every great handling moment and those not so great. Training is never stagnant, and we continue to learn about what will makes us even better.

🏆6th in ASCA 2026 Agility Standard Finals. So glad he showed everyone what our team is capable of!

Now it’s time to go. The journey home is a long one but it allows me time to reflect, plan and reset for a fall/winter of training, trialing and playing with my two best boys. I look forward to our next Nationals. Spending a week with Aussie people is amazing! Everyone loves their Aussies, all for the same reason.....they are Aussies! I have seen so many amazing dogs, doing so many amazing things. All the things they are bred to do. That's what makes ASCA Nationals special.

Thanks ASCA and my ASCA family for making owning an Aussie even more special!

Today we had the day off to rest for ASCA Nationals which begins tomorrow. Nationals is a 3 day event: 2 Gambles-Day 1, 2 Regular runs-Day 2 and 2 Jumpers runs-Day 3. Looking forward to playing more agility with my boys before we set our sights on heading home!!!

While the boys took it easy and rested, I enjoyed getting around the show site to watch some stock runs (both sheep and cattle), obedience, confirmation, and spend time with friends (new and old). There is so much going on here: so many people doing really great things with their Aussies. It's a thrill to be part of the Aussie family!

One thing on the agenda today was to do a photo op with the boys and all their Finals bling!! Thanks Betty for helping get some nice photos taken. Thanks ASCA for the beautiful mural and set up, so we can show off our dogs and their hard work!

We had an early day and were able to go out to eat in Loveland that allowed dogs on the patio so we could relax and enjoy the end of another great day at ASCA Nationals!!

ASCA Agility Finals!!!

What a ride!!!!

I couldn't be more proud of my two boys. They stepped up the line in every run and gave me all they had. We stayed connected, worked every obstacle and came away having fun and feeling like the amazing teams we are.

I will post more specific results tomorrow, but for now here it is:

ATCH VIII Avid Zero Gravity "SOLAR" finished 3rd overall in the Veterans Finals. He rocked it in 4 clean runs!!!

ATCH 1 Avid Running in Sequence for Crown Point "SEQUENCE" finished 6th in Standard Agility Finals.
He had 3 beautiful clean runs!

What an experience! Getting in the top 10 with one dog, let alone 2. It is what we have been working for for so long.

Words can't even begin to describe the feelings I have right now.

Thanks boys! This trip has not disappointed!

We came, we played, we had fun!!!

The Aussie Acres UKI trial was a blast, but now I am already on to the next thing..............

The boys of Aussie Acres and I are on the road for the next two weeks. We are heading to ASCA Nationals in Greeley, Colorado.
Both boys qualified and will run in Finals on Monday the 21st, Sequence's first time, Solar's fourth. Then they will compete in Nationals 23rd-25th.

Since it is a bit of a drive from NY to Colorado, Aussie Acres will be closed for lessons and classes til October. I will miss you all, but don't worry I am already planning for our fall and winter training. Good bye shorts and tees, hello boots, coats and gloves.

Just because there are no classes, doesn't mean training stops.
Keep working on your skills!

Aussie Acres 3rd UKI trial is now complete. The event may be finished, but the memories will stay forever. We had a great weekend with superb September weather. My heart is exploding with all the love and support I receive at Aussie Acres Agility from friends, students, supporters, and an amazing agility community. You all came together this weekend to support Aussie Acres in providing a trial to the North Country. It was an honor to host everyone and to watch you go out and "play" with your wonderful canine companions. Although ribbons, Qs or titles are nice, what matters the most is that you had fun with your canine partner. You are all winners in my book!!!! If it was up to me you would all earn Q's for getting out there on the field!

I want to thank everyone for stepping up and helping this weekend. This event would not have happened without YOU.

Thank you Shona and Nicki for helping me realize my dream of bringing an agility trial to Aussie Acres. I couldn't have done it without you both! Can't wait for Trial #4, let the planning begin!

Thank you Erin Shaffer for coming to judge. We truly appreciated you patience, kindness and helpfulness, especially with many new teams to agility. Thank you "Paco" for courses that let our dogs run and let the handlers test their training.

Volunteers are everything at an agility trial! From setting bars, to managing the gate, to moving equipment during course building; the days flowed seamlessly from one course to another.
A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Marshall, Nicki and Lee for stepping up to manage course building, and many thanks to all those that helped them get things moved and set so the next class was ready in a timely fashion. Marshal you kept everyone on task and ran your two dogs too, your help was instrumental, thanks again!
The Judge's pick for "Helper of the Weekend" was Myranda who came and worked all weekend. She arrived early and was last to leave each day!). Myranda is new to agility and didn't run a dog, but I am sure we will see her out there running her dog next year.....she has been bitten by the agility bug!

A Very Special Thanks to Sarah Craig for having "Synchrony/Run Fast and Bark Loud" bracelets made for everyone. I am so very touched by this gesture. Our dogs are what bring us together in this sport, and losing them is so hard. Please wear these bracelets in memory of Synchrony and all the dogs we have loved and lost in our lives!

Thank you to all who stayed to share a meal and fun conversation at the Pot Luck on Saturday. Your contributions to the meal were yummy! No one went away hungry. Thank you Heather G. of Mineral Spring Farms for donating the burgers (they were amazing).

Thank you competitors for coming to Trial at Aussie Acres. I hope you enjoyed your trialing experience here and will come again. It was great to watch all the dogs and handlers working together to negotiate courses. A trial setting really pushes a handler, and we learn more and more about our dogs, ourselves, and our training. If you are like me, I always go home after a trial with more things to think about and more things to train. Regardless, I always take home the best dog.

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to team Aussie Acres for supporting me as I support you in your training throughout the year. I am blessed with so many wonderful students and their dogs. To say I am proud of what you have all accomplished would be an understatement. Watching your team work, grow lesson by lesson, month by month, year by year is just a thrill. And now to see so many of you stepping up to the line in a trial setting is like icing on the cake! Now we know what work we need to do for next year! It's exciting to hear so many of you already thinking about what you need to train going forward and what your plans are for trialing next year. There is hard work ahead, can't wait to get started with you!

Lastly (but of course not least), thank you to my husband for his patience in my endeavor to live out my dreams in agility. Yes, he gets a little tired of "doggy talk", but he is always there to help when needed. Without his support, Aussie Acres would not have grown to what it is today.

Now that the trial is over and we all move on to the next dog event of move on with life in general, I hope your memories of this event will make you laugh and smile for years to come. And if you love agility as much as I do, get training so your are ready for next year!!!!! It's a great thing to be involved with, hope I will see you on the start line September 2027!
