Aussie Acres Agility is ready for this Saturday's Weekend Workshop (May30)

The topic is Proofing contacts- exploring entries and exits.

Each contact has it's own set up and challenges.

Workshop session has MOVED to the afternoon from 1-4 and there is still room.

We will begin in the Arena working the teeter, then move outside to be challenged with set-ups with the AF and DW. There are multiple variations with in each set-up, more than one workshop can present. There will be something for everyone.

You will be sorry to have missed this workshop!!!

RALLY and OBEDIENCE at Aussie Acres!

Rally Advanced and Beyond will be at 9am on Wednesdays starting June 10th. This is for more skilled teams that are working at the Intermediate/Advanced level or higher. We will start by going over all Intermediate/Advanced signs in a course format and then progress depending on the teams' skill levels. Prerequisites: sit, down, short stay, heeling with attention.

We are also planning to offer sessions in August/September and October/November. Times will change for each session to accommodate daylight and weather for each season – tentatively August/Sept will be in the evening and Oct/Nov midday.

Kate grew up training and showing dogs in a variety of sports. In obedience she has earned two (CDX) Companion Dog Excellent titles (and hopes to one day get a UD!), and in Rally she has earned one Rally Championship (RACH) and is working on two more. When not training for competitive sports, she and her dogs love trick training, going for long walks, and sharing snacks.

Cost: 6 week Rally or Obedience class is $180.

Saturday May 30, 10-1.

Need a little work on proofing your contacts? Don't we all!!!!

3 set ups- working entries and exits for the DW, AF and Teeter.

RALLY and OBEDIENCE at Aussie Acres!

Now that her car and Corgi troubles are resolved, Kate Basedow will be offering six weeks of rally and obedience classes on Wednesdays from 9am to 12pm in the Aussie Acres indoor arena, starting June 10th.

Class options are Novice Rally, Advanced Rally and Beyond, Rally Master Skills, and Heeling Games. Please let Kate know what times work for you (9am, 10am, or 11pm) and which class(es) you are interested in. Exact schedule will be determined based on interest.

🌹🌳🪺🌞May is moving along and soon it will be June. With the spring into summer weather, we all get busy with outdoor activities either with our dogs or with our families. Weekends are busy and precious and Aussie Acres Agility wants to help make weekend training valuable and worthwhile.

I enjoying offering weekend workshops, providing a little additional training opportunities on focused topics that may not be addressed in a weekly class. That being said, I am struggling to come up with good topics that Aussie Acres students want/need or interested in.

The past list of topics are many (here are a few): Serpentines, 270s, Contacts, Weaves, Handling skills (threadle wraps, threadle slices, backsides, FC, BC, RC), Walking Agility, and on and on.

So as I look forward to my available weekends, I am looking to hear from you. What topics do you need additional training on, what are your weaknesses, what are your strengths, what tools are missing from your tool box?

Always keep learning and always keep playing! I love this sport which allows me to continue to develop this deep relationship with my canine partner. Sequence has become an amazing teammate, and I am working hard to hold up my end of the agreement.

A week at Aussie Acres Agility....................

The Weaves Skill Workshop is complete. Handlers showed some amazing weave skills and learned how to take them to the next level. Skills of being ahead, behind, and rear crossing the poles were explored. Handlers braved a breezy 52 degrees (feels like 42) but at least there were no bugs! I am looking forward to seeing terrific weave skills from these handlers in the future!

The small field received an afternoon make over, and is ready for classes this week

The Indoor arena is set up and ready for handlers to work the Agility course in the UKI Stay Home trial Week 192.

Training fun is always on the schedule at Aussie Acres Agility!

There is still room in May 3 Weave skills workshop.
Having independent Weaves while the Handler is ahead, behind (sending) or crossing behind the dog are vital skills in today’s agility courses. This video shows a few examples of advanced weave skills and the dog working independent of the handler’s motion.
