Meet Willow! 🐾

This adorable little ball of curiosity came in for her recheck following surgery, and we were thrilled to give her some great news. After a successful recovery, Dr. Reitz officially cleared Willow to graduate from her surgical suit!

While we're happy to see her healing so well, we have to admit—we think the suit only added to her charm. šŸ’™

Congratulations, Willow! We can't wait to see what adventures your curiosity leads you to next.

Hurricane season is part of life in Florida—but preparation can make all the difference for your pet’s safety.

A few steps to consider now:
🐾 Keep medications and medical records easily accessible
🐾 Ensure ID tags and microchip information are up to date
🐾 Pack a pet emergency kit (food, water, medications, comfort items)
🐾 Know in advance which shelters or hotels accept pets

In stressful situations, familiar items and preparation can help reduce anxiety—for both you and your pet.

If your pet has ongoing medical needs, we’re happy to help you plan ahead to ensure continuity of care.

Preparedness brings peace of mind—before the storm arrives.

Panda may be a giant, but he’s convinced he’s still a lap dog šŸ¤šŸ¾

Dr. Ellis got plenty of hugs during his visit, and honestly, we weren’t complaining! From the happy smiles to the standing cuddles, Panda made everyone’s day a little brighter. Thank you to his family for trusting us with this sweet boy’s care — we can’t wait to see him again for more snuggles and tail wags!

Get to Know the West Park Team: Idalis

Behind every smooth surgery and thorough dental procedure is a technician who brings both skill and heart to her work—meet Idalis.

Idalis has a special passion for surgery and dentistry, where her attention to detail helps ensure every patient receives safe, thoughtful care. She also deeply values the connections she builds—whether it’s supporting her team, getting to know our clients, or helping patients feel more comfortable during their visit.

At home, she’s kept company by her cat, Batman—who clearly understands the importance of a good care team.

A fun fact about Idalis: she participated in frog population research in Southwest Florida while attending Florida Gulf Coast University—bringing her love of animal care beyond the clinic and into conservation work.

We’re grateful to have her knowledge, curiosity, and compassion as part of our team.

Obesity is one of the most common—and most overlooked—health concerns in pets.

Even a small amount of excess weight can have a significant impact over time.

🐾 Increased risk for:
• Diabetes
• Arthritis
• Heart disease
• Reduced lifespan

Weight gain often happens gradually, making it easy to miss.

The good news is that safe, guided weight loss can dramatically improve both quality of life and longevity.

We take an individualized approach—focusing on realistic nutrition and lifestyle adjustments that work for both you and your pet.

Small changes can lead to meaningful, lasting health benefits.

Gunner stopped by for his final round of puppy vaccines today šŸ’‰šŸ¾
This handsome boy is growing fast—and according to mom, he’s also mastered the art of vacuuming up his meals.

Fast eaters can be more prone to digestive upset, which is why slowing things down at mealtime can make a meaningful difference in their comfort and health. We love hearing that Gunner’s mom is already using a slow feeder to support his wellbeing—such a simple tool with a big impact.

Here’s to growing up healthy, happy, and just a little less speedy at the food bowl šŸ¶šŸ’™

Preserving what matters—because every tooth tells a story.

At West Park Animal Hospital, we believe dentistry is about more than clean teeth. It’s about protecting comfort, function, and quality of life for the pets who depend on us.

We’ve recently introduced an advanced dental therapy designed to support healing below the gumline. Applied during a complete oral health assessment and professional cleaning, this specialized gel is placed directly into periodontal pockets—areas where disease can quietly progress. Once activated, it works with your pet’s natural daily movements—chewing, barking, even subtle vibrations—to help stimulate new bone growth while reducing harmful biofilm.

In cases where tooth loss once felt inevitable due to bone deterioration, this approach offers a different path—one focused on preservation whenever possible.

In these images, you’ll see Lauren, our veterinary technician, carefully scaling and preparing the teeth, followed by Dr. Churchill placing the product and activating it with a curing light. It’s a thoughtful, precise process rooted in both science and intention.

Because sometimes, the best care isn’t about removing what’s damaged—it’s about restoring what can still thrive.

If you have questions about your pet’s dental health, we’re here to help guide you.

This sweet boy reminded us today that a calm experience can shape a lifetime of veterinary visits šŸ¾šŸ’™

After his exam, he settled right in for some quiet cuddle time with Dr. Reitz while we reviewed his care plan with mom. Moments like these aren’t just heartwarming—they’re intentional. Creating a sense of safety and trust helps pets feel more at ease, both now and in the future.

A gentle approach, a little extra time, and meeting each patient where they are can make all the difference in how they experience care.

Because feeling safe is just as important as staying healthy 🐶

Meeting patients where they are šŸ’š

Maddy was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and like many pets, she feels a bit anxious during clinic visits. To help reduce her stress while still closely monitoring her health, we’ve started using a continuous glucose monitor (Freestyle Libre).

This small sensor allows us to track Maddy’s glucose levels throughout the day—from the comfort of her home—giving us a more complete picture than occasional in-clinic testing. It also helps us make thoughtful, timely adjustments to her care while keeping her routine as calm and familiar as possible.

Chronic conditions like diabetes may not always mean frequent trips to the hospital. With the right tools and a personalized approach, we can support both medical needs and emotional wellbeing.

Maddy is already showing us how adaptable and resilient our patients can be 🐾

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) affects the spine and can lead to pain, nerve damage, and in severe cases, paralysis.

It is most commonly seen in certain breeds but can occur in any dog.

🐾 Signs may include:
• Reluctance to jump or move
• Crying out in pain
• Weakness in the limbs
• Difficulty walking

IVDD can range from mild discomfort to an emergency requiring immediate care.

Early recognition is critical—prompt treatment can significantly improve outcomes.

If your pet shows sudden changes in mobility or signs of back pain, timely evaluation is important.

We’re here to help assess and guide you through next steps with care and clarity.
