We have received an increased number of stray dog reports recently. If you find a stray dog, Michigan Law requires that it be reported to Animal Control or local law enforcement within 48 hours. Reporting found dogs helps us reunite pets with their owners and ensures proper procedures are followed.

Please remember that stray dogs should be reported through Animal Control and should not be taken directly to Rea Family Animal Shelter. Animal Control must handle the intake process and required stray hold before other arrangements can be made.

I am also asking our community to keep an eye out for anyone abandoning or dumping animals. If you witness suspicious activity involving a dog being left behind or released from a vehicle, please document as much information as you can and report it as soon as possible.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Weekend Reminder for Pet Owners 🇺🇸

If you’re traveling this Memorial Day with your pets, remember that unfamiliar places can be stressful and confusing for them. A pet that’s comfortable at home may become frightened and slip away in a new environment.

Before you hit the road, make sure your pet has:

-A secure collar with current ID tags
-Updated contact information
-A properly fitted harness or leash during stops
-A recent photo saved on your phone, just in case

Proper identification can make all the difference in helping a lost pet get home quickly.

Travel safe, enjoy the holiday weekend, and keep your furry family members protected! ❤️🐶🐱

It's now 2026, did you get your dog license?
They are available at the shelter until February 27th. After that, they must be purchased at the court house and will go up to $30 on March 1st.
We will then only sell new licenses with adoptions (Ogemaw County only).
Current prices:
$10 for fixed. $15 for not fixed.
CASH ONLY here at the shelter.
Proof of current rabies vaccination needed.
