PLEASE READ! 💔🐾😿
Our hearts are broken to share the sad news that Vinny, the black-and-white cat Cindy had been feeding for years on “V” Street, has passed away. Vinny was the one who used to follow Cindy around the corner, making his way into her heart just by being himself. She had grown so attached to him, as she does to so many of the cats she cares for.
Recently, Cindy noticed that Vinny wasn’t hearing very well anymore and had stopped grooming himself. Sometimes, when she did manage to locate him, she even had to gently poke him while he was sleeping on the porch just to wake him up. Looking back, she knew he was showing signs that something wasn’t right, but he made it difficult for her by not showing up for feedings for weeks at a time.
Yesterday, Cindy received the heartbreaking news that Vinny had been found deceased on the ground. No one knows exactly what happened to him, but thankfully, someone cared enough to give him a proper burial. People sometimes ask how someone can get so attached to cats who live outside. The truth is, when you feed them, look after them, worry about them and see their faces day after day, they become part of your heart. You learn their personalities, their routines, and their little quirks. They become your cats, even if they never get to be your own…and when one of them disappears or passes away, it hurts. It hurts because you cared. It hurts because you wish you could have done more…and it hurts because you know the world can be such a hard place for these forgotten souls.
Vinny may have spent his life outdoors, but he was not completely forgotten. Cindy cared about him, watched over him, and made sure he had food and someone who recognized him as a life worth caring about.
Run free, sweet Vinny. We hope your days are now filled with warmth, comfort, and peace. You mattered, you were loved, and you will be missed. ❤️🌈🐾
