🦟🕷️ Don’t Put Away the Parasite Prevention Just Yet! 🍂🐾

Here in West Bend, we’re lucky to have so many beautiful places to enjoy the outdoors with our pets. From walks around the neighborhood to hiking and exploring the Kettle Moraine, there are plenty of opportunities for our dogs to get out and enjoy the last days of summer. 🌲🥾🐕

But as the temperatures start to cool and fall approaches, parasite season isn’t over!

🕷️ Ticks are still active in Wisconsin. In fact, ticks can remain active well into the fall, especially when temperatures are mild. Wooded areas, tall grasses, brush, and leaf litter can all provide opportunities for ticks to hitch a ride on your pet.

And if your dog loves exploring the Kettle Moraine, don't forget that a quick tick check after a hike can make a big difference. Check around the ears, neck, between the toes, under the legs, and around the tail—ticks can be surprisingly easy to miss!

🦟 Mosquitoes are another reason to keep up with prevention. Even though summer is winding down, mosquitoes don't disappear overnight. Consistent heartworm prevention helps protect your dog from heartworm disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

🐜 And don't forget about fleas! Fleas can continue to thrive in warm outdoor environments and can also make their way indoors, where they can continue reproducing.

🐶❤️ HAPPY NATIONAL DOG DAY! ❤️🐶

Today is all about celebrating the dogs who make our lives a little happier, a little messier, and a whole lot more fun! 🐾

From the adventure-loving hiking dogs who are always ready for the next trail 🌲🥾, to the couch potatoes who believe every blanket belongs to them 🛋️, to the dogs who greet you like you've been gone for 10 years when you were only gone for 10 minutes… we love them all! 🥰

Our dogs aren't just pets—they're family. They're our hiking buddies, camping companions, walking partners, cuddle experts, snack inspectors, and sometimes the best friends we never knew we needed. ❤️

Moose is my shadow. Everywhere I go, he goes. Whatever I’m doing, he somehow finds a way to be right there with me. Whether we're out exploring, relaxing at home, or just going about our everyday lives, he is by my side.

He has been one of my greatest support systems and truly my best friend. There is something so special about the bond we share with our dogs—the kind of friendship that doesn't need words. They just know. ❤️

I feel incredibly lucky to have Moose by my side, and I know so many of you have a dog who holds that same special place in your heart.

🐾💗 Meet Ripley, the Brave Puppy! 💗🐾

Ripley came in for her vaccine visit and was such a brave little girl! 🥰 She handled her visit like a champ and was all smiles afterward. 🐶💉

But Ripley wasn't the only one having a great time during her visit! The children who came along were so interested in everything happening at the clinic and had lots of curiosity and questions about veterinary medicine. 🩺🐾

We absolutely LOVE seeing the next generation getting excited about caring for animals! 💕 Who knows… maybe one day we'll see Ripley's little human family member back at Heart & Soul Pet Clinic as part of our team! 🥹🐶🩺

For now, we'll just keep encouraging that love for animals and veterinary medicine! ❤️

🐾❤️ Could Your Pet Find Their Way Home? ❤️🐾

Today is Check the Chip Day! 🐶🐱

A collar and ID tag are important, but collars can break, tags can become unreadable, and pets can sometimes slip away when we least expect it. A microchip provides a permanent form of identification that stays with your pet for life.

A microchip is a tiny device (about the size of a grain of rice) placed under your pet’s skin that contains a unique identification number. If your pet is ever lost and brought to a shelter or veterinary clinic, a scanner can be used to look up that number and help reunite them with their family. ❤️

But remember — a microchip only works if your information is up to date!

Today is a great reminder to:
✅ Check that your pet’s microchip is registered
✅ Make sure your phone number, address, and email are current
✅ Confirm your pet’s microchip information after moving or changing phone numbers
✅ Ask us about microchipping if your pet isn’t chipped yet

🐾💕 Recovery Never Looked So Cozy! 💕🐾

Everyone say hello to our sweet patient, Lucy! ❤️

After her procedure, Lucy has been recovering in style in her adorable recovery suit (and we have to admit... she looks pretty cute in those pajamas! 🥹🐶).

Her mom shared that Lucy has been feeling much better and even wanted to tag along to work so she could rest by her side. We think that's the sweetest thing! 🥰

Recovery suits can be a wonderful alternative to the traditional cone for many pets after surgery. They help protect the incision while allowing pets to move, rest, and cuddle more comfortably. While they aren't appropriate for every procedure or every pet, they can be a great option to discuss with your veterinarian.

We love seeing our patients feeling better and getting back to their happy selves. Thank you, Lucy's family, for allowing us to share this adorable photo with everyone! ❤️
