West Baton Rouge Parish Shelter and Animal Control WBRP Shelter & Animal Control is a department of the WBR Parish Council.

Our mission is to enrich the quality of life for people and pets in our community through education, outreach, code enforcement, disease prevention, adoptions, and rescue/transports. West Baton Rouge Parish Shelter and Animal Control is a department of West Baton Rouge Parish Council. As an Animal Control department, we are tasked with enforcing all parish and municipal ordinances concerning the k

eeping of animals within West Baton Rouge Parish, impounding any animals being kept in violation of those ordinances, and investigating animal cruelty complaints. As a shelter, we are tasked with doing everything we can to find positive outcomes for the neglected, unclaimed, and abandoned animals in our care. We do this through community outreach, social media outreach, volunteerism, and networking with rescues and adopters across the country. It is our sincere hope to build a trustworthy relationship with the members of our community. We strive to educate as many community members as possible on basic pet care and the importance of spay/neuter, in addition to the ordinances of this parish. We aim to provide comfort and basic medical care for the animals in our possession to the best of our ability. We ensure each animal that is adopted out through our shelter is either spayed or neutered, up to date on basic vaccinations, and has a microchip.

Our office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, September 7th, in observance of Labor Day. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

On-call staff will respond to emergency situations (animal-to-human bite cases, animals in danger, or immediate threats to public safety) ONLY during this time. We will address stray animal reports, nuisance complaints, and trap requests when we resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

If you have an emergency situation involving an animal during this time, please dial 911, and they will, in turn, dispatch our on-call officers. Happy Labor Day, everyone!

At about 1 year old and 16 pounds, Parker is the perfect little playmate. He loves fetch, tug-of-war, kids, and meeting new people! He’s always happy to see visitors at the shelter and has so much love to give.

Parker was found running loose as a stray and brought to us by a kind person. Now, all he needs is someone to give him the loving home he deserves. 🏡🐶

We currently have so many adorable kittens looking for their forever families! ❤️ This sweet mama is ready for her babies to spread their little paws and find loving homes of their own.

These kittens are available to be fostered until they can be spayed or neutered. Fostering gives them a safe, loving place to grow until adoption. 🏡🐱

🐾 Meet this precious little girl! 🐾
This teeny, adorable 8-week-old kitten is looking for her forever home! ❤️ She was bottle-raised after being found all alone inside an old mattress when she was just one day old. Thanks to lots of love and care, she’s now ready to find a family of her own.

She is currently available for foster-to-adopt until she’s big enough to be spayed. 🐱💕

All animals impounded at our shelter have a hold period of 3 days (no signs of ownership) or 6 days (signs of ownership). During this time, we are tirelessly seeking positive outcomes for these animals, and if determined to be adoptable, they may be adopted, placed in foster care, or transferred out to a rescue organization.

It is essential that we locate the owner as soon as possible, and they come to reclaim their animal within the timeframe specified by ordinance. We cannot promise the animal will still be in our care after the expired hold period.

Please note that many of the animals that end up at our shelter have been abandoned, neglected, abused, lost, stolen, found loose, or injured. Their photos may reflect these conditions. In accordance with the standards of care mandated by state law and in addition to standard vaccination and deworming protocols, we do provide minor medical care (including examination by a veterinarian if deemed necessary) for the animals in our care.

Our new GIS Lost & Found Pet Map just got its very first success story! Ollo was found as a stray on Tuesday. Our Animal Control team knew this sweet, well-groomed pup belonged to someone, so we pinned his location on our recently launched GIS lost & found pet map. Today, his owners spotted him online and rushed in for a happy reunion!

WBRP GIS and IT Departments helped us create this map to bring families back together, and we can't wait to watch it help many more furry friends find their way home! To check for lost, found, or stray impounded pets in your area or to report one of your own, you can access the map in three convenient ways:

1. The QR code on the lower right side of our website's homepage. (https://www.wbrparish.org/175/Animal-Control)

2. On the front page of WBRP's Connect App, available as a free download for iPhone and Android users.

3. On the left side of our page under the links section (arcgis..com).
