West Baton Rouge Parish Shelter and Animal Control WBRP Shelter & Animal Control is a department of the WBR Parish Council.

Our mission is to enrich the quality of life for people and pets in our community through education, outreach, code enforcement, disease prevention, adoptions, and rescue/transports. West Baton Rouge Parish Shelter and Animal Control is a department of West Baton Rouge Parish Council. As an Animal Control department, we are tasked with enforcing all parish and municipal ordinances concerning the keeping of animals within West Baton Rouge Parish, impounding any animals being kept in violation of those ordinances, and investigating animal cruelty complaints. As a shelter, we are tasked with doing everything we can to find positive outcomes for the neglected, unclaimed, and abandoned animals in our care. We do this through community outreach, social media outreach, volunteerism, and networking with rescues and adopters across the country. It is our sincere hope to build a trustworthy relationship with the members of our community. We strive to educate as many community members as possible on basic pet care and the importance of spay/neuter, in addition to the ordinances of this parish. We aim to provide comfort and basic medical care for the animals in our possession to the best of our ability. We ensure each animal that is adopted out through our shelter is either spayed or neutered, up to date on basic vaccinations, and has a microchip.

🤖From Robots to Rescue Pups! 🐶

We had a pawsome visit from FRC Team 10217 Catahoula Blue Dogs this week! They toured the shelter, spent time loving on our cats and dogs, and rolled up their sleeves to make two fun enrichment activities for our furry friends. ❤️

But their impact doesn’t stop there! This amazing team also fosters Orion, who joins them at every meeting. 🐾💙

We’re so grateful for young people who use their time, creativity, and compassion to make a difference for shelter animals. Thank you for being such wonderful animal advocates and showing that STEM and animal welfare make a pretty pawsome team! 🦾🐾

Our office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, September 7th, in observance of Labor Day. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

On-call staff will respond to emergency situations (animal-to-human bite cases, animals in danger, or immediate threats to public safety) ONLY during this time. We will address stray animal reports, nuisance complaints, and trap requests when we resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8th.

If you have an emergency situation involving an animal during this time, please dial 911, and they will, in turn, dispatch our on-call officers. Happy Labor Day, everyone!
