Chukawalas are from the deserts and bask at the top of rocks even when it's over 100 degrees!!!

Charles is so chunky and cute.

This one is feisty. Hisses. Whips puffs up.
But once i got her relaxed she fell asleep on my belly!
At this point she is getting used to my scent and presence.

When a baby monitor whips and hisses. Do not pull away. They will continue this behavior because it makes you go away.

Stand your ground. But Don't advance. Just don't go away.

Let them realize and think. Your not a threat. Your just there.
Stage 1. Let them get used to your presence.
Stage 2. Get them used to your touch.

2020 I purchased a sunset combo male and a few het sunset combo females. It was very pricey then.

At the time I was the only one at the reptile show with 2 visual sunset morphs displayed. Many people have never seen this morph in person.

He didn't breed successfully at 600 grams then at 700 grams. Nothing. And the females were not up to size to breed for 3 years. Year 4 they were finally up to size. Attempted to pair them up. Nothing. Then last year nothing again.

2026 only 1 female bred successfully. 4 eggs. 2 were weak eggs. The 3rd egg died 2 weeks before due date. Only 1 egg remained.

2 days after estimated hatch date this girl pipped.

It was a struggle. But I'm happy.

This is the life of breeding reptiles. Some wins are extremely delayed.

Over the years I've hatched eggs that didn't look like they would make it

This year I had an egg bound female. I manually had to push some eggs out. They didn't look good. But I incubated them regardless. 2 out of 4 made it.

Taming down any monitor takes work.
This guy was returned because the owner didn't continue the training.

Each individual can be different and you have to feel them out.

Repetition
Consistency
Gentle touch
Yet firm.
