Regular soaking helps hydrate and they get used to some handling.

Make sure to use warm not hot or cold water.

Monitors can be overly aggressive feeders. You have to train them to think before they bite thinking your food.

Introduce your hand/ fingers. Let them think about it. Then introduce the food while your hand is there.

Keep doing this and they will tend to think before they mistakingly bite you for food.

Baby savannah monitors have to learn how to eat their food and some are way more efficient at catching and swallowing them others. They also learn what is edible or not.

I teach these guys that a red container means food.
