MONDAY. 11 PM. WRAPPING UP OUR STRUCTURE SESSION.
THE WORLD WON’T STOP MOVING JUST SO YOUR DOG CAN BEHAVE.
Visitors will come over. Kids will play. Doors will open. There will be movement, noise, and unfamiliar situations. That’s why teaching your dog how to coexist with what’s happening around them matters.
Watch this video: one dog walks while the others remain in place, even as an unusual distraction passes right in front of them. We’re practicing waiting, holding a position, and allowing the environment to keep moving.
Now bring that into your family’s everyday life: greeting visitors without jumping on them, waiting while you open the door, or settling down while you eat. That’s where structure makes a difference.
BUT STRUCTURE STARTS WITH YOU.
If you allow something today and punish it tomorrow, if one person sets a rule and another breaks it, you’re making learning harder for your dog. The entire family needs to be consistent.
This is built step by step, reinforcing the right responses and introducing distractions each dog can handle. Exercise, exploration, play, and rest are also part of that structure.
