Ruca does scent box work multiple times a week if we aren’t out running mock lines. She only gets paid on the target (interdigital glad). The other box’s have distraction scents, in this session the other two non targets are squirrel tail and turkey foot.

What an amazing weekend Missouri Blood Trackers Association symposium!

Had a blast working with other handlers, dogs and apprenticing with some of the best!
I learned a ton!

We all shared some wonderful meals, stories and lies around the fire.

We all joke of rucas speed all the time, this weekend she proved it 😂. She took first in the FastCat! And last in the obstacle course 😂.

Highlights for me: Watching Floppy Ears Deer Tracking crush a UBT 2 while in heat.
Sniffin Griffin game recovery smoke their UBT 2
The smile on Tom Monehan with Hyde holding that UBT 2 ribbon!
Joshua Gatlin Gunn evee toting that UBT 2 ribbon.
Put in the work and good things happen.

Off-season work matters — even with a seasoned dog.

½-mile mock line. No blood between spots.
Goals:
• ID blood
• Stay clean on hoof-only track
• Work restarts

Pulled her off the line 3 times (handler error simulation).

Did she independently return to the line?
Yup. All three times.

Did she nail every blood spot?
Nope — just the first one.
(Goal: her to note the blood spot, so that i can read it)

Good. More to work on.

Offseason isn’t about proving how good they are.

It’s about exposing the gaps — and tightening them up before season.
