Dreams do come true!! 🤩

I’ve always wanted a tonometer.

A tonometer measures the pressures of the eyes!

In order to do a full exam of the eyes, we need a pressure reading.

BUT. These very specialized diagnostic tools cost $4,500.

I finally have been able to invest in one for our patients!! 👏😇

Here’s what information we will gain by investing in a tonometer for our patients with eye injuries or disease:

Detects Glaucoma:
High eye pressure occurs when fluid drainage inside the eye is blocked, leading to irreversible optic nerve damage and blindness.

Identifies Uveitis:
Low or abnormal pressure often signals inflammation inside the eye, such as equine recurrent uveitis (ERU or "moon blindness"), which is the leading cause of blindness in horses.

Guides Treatment:
Knowing the exact internal pressure helps veterinarians safely choose medications, as some treatments can dangerously increase or decrease pressure in a compromised eye.

Assesses Emergencies:
Conditions causing red, cloudy, or painful eyes require immediate pressure checks to rule out severe ulcers or a rupturing globe.
