Just One Voice ....

Our organization is just a drop of water in the big ocean of life. There is so much to be done ... so much to be changed ... The public must be educated to be responsible, compassionate and respectful of all creatures. As the poet Robert Frost has said, “I have miles to go before I sleep, miles.”

It must be Spring. A mother bird has her nest every year near an opening by my roof. Her chicks are so loud it sounds as though they are in my kitchen. Woke me up at 5 :30 A M two days in a row. Just what I need. But that's what Spring is all about. Rebirth. Everything is coming to life--including the grass. I've been mowing for 3 hours almost every 4 days in addition to everything else. But on a positive note --it's better than shoveling snow.

Everyone is feeling their oats. Rudy , one of my horses has an attitude. Always has. He bit Patience a few days ago because she wasn't fast enough in feeding. Not hard but enough for a firm NO.
Everyone else is running kicking and enjoying the grass.

Mia looks wonderful in her shave down. My focus is now on Sasha. Same poodle fur. She bit the groomer so now we have to see what to do. She has a heart situation and the type of sedation that Mia had is not wise. We'll see.

The chicks are growing. They are supposed to be bantoms. My birds in the past were attractive. These guys are--well--just brown and black Lots of personality . They respond to my voice and recognize when I am replacing their food and water. They were free run. So not sexed. With my luck I have lots of little roosters.

That's about it for now. Just an update.

Lightening--thunder and pouring rain. If the day began this way no way would I have made Mia's grooming appointment. It was a success . She's still a little foggy but she looks great. I of course was a reck. I really don't like putting her under sedation because it takes her some time to come out of it. But I have no choice. She did well. The cost? $625. Yep. She had her blood checked and her 3 year vaccination. Am I crazy or what? But there is no way she could look and feel the way she was. It's the poodle fur. Another day.

I'm waiting for the storm to pass. Some of the dogs are paper trained and others not. It's really bad. There goes my mowing job. Jake was going to w**d wack but that didn't happen. I hope this weekend we can continue with the landscaping.

I guess that's about all. I'm going to see if I can convince the dogs to go out. I still have to complete my rounds.

Another day.

05/12/2026

Today there was sun and clouds all day but no rain. I jumped on the mower and worked for almost 3 hours. Jake my helper mowed where I could not venture with my sitting mower. The grass was almost 7 in. in some spots. I mowed like a maniac .Just as I finished and drove to the garage I ran out of gas. That was great timing. I finished at around 2 PM. I couldn't believe 8 hours had already passed in my day.

As I mowed past my horse's paddocks grass flew inside. The horses loved the grass. Bella was running and kicking as I passed her and called out her name.

I then ran some short errands and it was time for rounds before I knew it.

Maybe this weekend we can take some photos. Harley and Mochi look so cute with their hair cuts. I am dreading this Wednesday when I take Mia for her shave down at the vet. To be continued.

The chicks are doing great, I think they recognize my voice. I have a small breed. Hopefully they'll produce eggs by late summer. My other birds are older and not laying very much. Honestly when finances are tight-these eggs come in handy. The turkey eggs are also good.

I mentioned the turkeys. I had to separate the Toms. The alpha male is now in the garage. He actually tried to kill the smaller Tom. Separating them was quite a task. They call to one another. Big Tom is prancing around in the garage while Little Tom struts his stuff. When I enter the garage in the morning Big Tom knows it's feeding time .The garage is about 3 cars deep so he has lots of room to roam safely. When I call him he comes running to his dish. I had no idea about the sexes when rescued. But according to my research 2 toms and 3 females is not a good equation. I should have at least 3 females to each tom. Not doing it. So it is what it is and they are safe. There are photos of them in the photo section of the site. Big Tom has never attacked me but he was very aggressive to anyone who entered the area. They are huge Bourbon reds.So a bite from them can hurt. I guess we bonded. Good thing.

Money is always tight. I found a nice hay person. So far the hay is reasonable. I buy 20 at a time. It lasts around a week. But that with everything else including gas prices makes me want to hurry my chicks growth. There have been weeks I had to be very creative with eggs..

Almost all of the horses have been groomed. Three more to go. Jake and I will try to finish this up on Wednesday along with everything else. I'm squeezing in as much as possible per day when the weather is in our favor. It didn't rain today but it is very chilly

I guess that's about all. Just an update

I have not been on for awhile. Life has been very busy. I have been writing -posting and calling representatives about animal issues. The world has become more indifferent to cruelty and I am trying to be a spokesperson.

The 1500 beagles have been rescued but there are 500 more that need to be removed. I wish to god I could have been there to participate. It's a shame they had to be paid for. Where are our rich celebrities when we need them.? Jerks are pounding on the doors to adopt these dogs while there are dogs on kill lists that need homes. Why aren't they adopting them? Just f**ken ego to say they adopted a beagle from this lab. Meanwhile there is a beagle for free locally that the family does not want. father died. .I love this breed. My two dogs are beagle mixes. My first dog ever was a beagle. They are the best dogs ever. I may consider. He is 4 years old. Any takers?

Depressed. I am on so many sites. So much cruelty. I hug my animals so much lately. There is nothing I can do .

Tomorrow is a busy Saturday. We are grooming the remaining horses and mowing. My help is prepared. The weather has been awful. Notihng but rain. I have a massive job in mowing--if I can and they have their jobs.

I guess that's about all for now. Just an update.

04/29/2026

It's crazy. The weather is cold and rainy. I have no more propane so I'm wearing a jacket in the house. I'm putting coats on the dogs recently groomed. What is going on? The grass is growing but the ground is wet so I can't mow. Not disappointed. But the job needs to be done. I can't speak for anyone else but I long for the sun.

The turkeys are over a year old . The alpha tom has become very aggressive towards the other tom so I had to separate them .I had no idea when I took them in what the sexes were, Two males with 3 females is not a good thing. So I've learned. They were in a fight to the death. Separating them took all the strength I could muster. The alpha male would attack anyone who came indoors. I was the only one he would not attack. I guess he knew better. This male is smaller and more docile. So Big Tom is in the garage constantly calling out to the others. Jake and I are going to build a wall with pallets to keep him towards the rear of the garage so that we can take out the mowers. That's all I need is for him to escape.

Everything else is pretty normal lately. I'm not grooming the horses until the weather settles. Still lots of mud. Same routine every day.

Just an update

Mother Nature has just lost her mind. Saturday it was 70 degrees. It was a short sleeve day with yard clean up in full swing. I had hopes to mow on Sunday. HOWEVER--I woke up on Sunday to 30 degrees and an inch of snow. ! Unbelievable. Today--Monday it was 25 degrees with wind. My apple trees lost their flowers and that means another year of no fruit. I'm down to the last of fuel and at this point I'll wear a coat in the house. I'm done with fuel bills.

The animals even had a reaction to the radical temperature change, Saturday the horses were all running and kicking and these last two cold days no one even wanted to go outside. It's back to putting coats on some of the dogs. When will this end?

The farrier was here last week. Everyone did well. I was raised $5 per horse. So now it's $55 per horse. Nice fellow. .Gas prices are affecting everything.

Finding a reliable hay person is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Prices can be as low as $3.50 to as high as $6.00 a bale Naturally the cheaper is not working out. Not grassy enough for horses. On Thursday I'm going to a new farm to look at some hay I hopefully can use.

That's about all for now. Just an update.

It's been a week and thank goodness things have settled down. It was not the Purina hard food. But I think it was the Friskies wet. There have been recalls in the past. I have new cases and all seem to be fine. Just another expensive week. I'm just happy everyone is back to normal. I could however use a break.

Harley our new 14 year old senior is doing well. It's always an adjustment. He'll stay with me until the end. For years I have always taken in one senior who needed placement. They have no where else to go. Some last months some a year. It's my pleasure to give them a safe place with love and care until the end. He's a malti/poo .In very bad shape. The daughter gave him somewhat of a hair cut. The family gave me a donation for his vaccinations so I could then take him to the groomer. Nice people. But with big dogs that would have killed him. I try to do what I can to help others even though I feel sometimes that I need a rescue.

Jake was sick today so Brad came in to help . I had my job and the farm. A Very long day. Productive --but long and I'm tired.

The weather was pleasant. The mud is practically gone. So--it's time to groom the horses. That's on the to do list for this week. This is a big job. You are removing winter fur and the mud. It usually takes two rounds . I'll have the help involved with some of this. Grooming is time consuming and tedious. But the horses feel good afterwards and it's good quiet time to spend with each one.

I guess that's about all. Just an update.

So--you try your best. I changed from ( 9 Lives cat food to Purina. I felt since the first ingredient was chicken by products ( whatever that may be ) it was better than corn. The cost is $17 a bag. I've been buying this brand for several months. Two days ago all of my cats and the rescues began to vomit and refuse to eat. I just finished paying my care credit card vet bills with my fund raiser and grant money. Well --just when you think things are running well this health issue happens. In just 2 days and 3 cats later my bill is $1000. Yep. And I'm not done. I called Purina but only spoke to a rep. He's sending me a refund of $17 . I told him something is toxic in this food and it made all of my cats sick.I want my vet expenses paid. I'm calling back tomorrow. I have a sample of the food and I hope the vet--or maybe the internet can help me find a place to send samples so I can have an answer. We are talking about multiple cats vomiting and being sick. There have been reports of toxic food killing pets. So--I'm back to 9 Lives where no one ever got sick and most seem to be coming around, But My nerves are a bit shot .Right now this is the best that I can do.

Tomorrow it's up early to finish my work--be at the vet by 9 A M with 2 cats that are still not eating--come back and see how Jake is managing the farm and get ready to take Mochi to the groomer. I take her to PetCo. They do a nice job. BUT I pay extra for the VIP treatment. She is groomed right in front of me. Pet Smart has had lots of pet deaths and cruelty charges. I won't go anywhere if I can't see what is going on. So I stand there for 2 hours or wander into the store for a bit. Mochi is nervous so I always want her to know that I'm around. After that it's time to go home and start the rounds. I'm tired thinking about it. Which reminds me it's getting late.

So another day. Another update.

03/26/2026

I was actually going to bed because it's late when suddenly I had the urge to go through the farm photos and write captions for each one. It was like a trip down memory lane. I was motivated to do this because someone criticized the first photo of Ms. Fluff on the site. They said her cage looked dirty. So I had to explain that was when she first arrived to us in that cage. I guess I have to explain everything so as not to face any flack. Anyway --you will see her in the photos as you go through the frames being groomed and looking very pretty and cared for. I hope that matter was settled.

Some of the animals have long passed and others recently. I have to admit I am sitting here teary eyed. So many pieces of your heart is taken away when they leave. It's a wonder I have one left.

I am going to hate myself in a few hours when the alarm goes off. But I enjoyed seeing some of the photos I almost forgot about. We have to take more.

Time to rest.

03/26/2026

What a day. My work--the catteries--running to the vet for special cat food--helping my friend Julie with hay at a new location . I dragged my helper Jake with me as the navigator .This location was in PA. and on some of the most narrow-rustic roads I have ever driven on. I can't imagine driving on these roads at night or during snow storms. The farmer was selling his hay for $3.50. Perfect for Julie's horses but naturally not for mine. SO--next week we drive for an hour into PA. at a place called Sylvania PA. I have to pay $ 6.00 a bail. Never a bargain for me.

Quiet. Mia is snuggled up to her big rope ball-Buster is sleeping on his back and Buddy and Sasha are just curled up into balls. Hard day. I like when the house is this quiet. I look around and see the peace --love and safety ever one feels. I pray for this every day.

The weather was with us today and hopefully for the next few days. We have some water line repairs-car repairs and the lawn mower needs a tune up. Brad comes in once a week and works with Jake . He has been doing some of the motor repairs and clean up. The tractor made some serious ruts in the ground because of the mud. Jake and I worked pretty hard for almost an hour repairing the ground. Looks good but we have a small area yet to finish. I love this place. It's a little bit of heaven most of the time. It's away from the chaos of the outside world and has its own little life

Busy day tomorrow. There is always a list. I'm tired at night but there is always a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Just an update.
