The fancy castration:
This is technically an ‘open’ castration because the tunic is opened to excise the testicles. However, the tunic, sq tissues and sc***um are subsequently closed.  This technique has the advantage of minimal to no swelling, no open incisions to deal with, no flies, and they can get right back to work after a few days!

Treatment of multifocal pain in the hock region
This horse was struggling with lameness issues on the right hind. With regional blocks and imaging, he was diagnosed with multifocal issues in the hock region (hock arthritis AND proximal suspensory desmitis). He was refractory to medical management so surgical correction was elected. A fasciotomy/neurectomy was performed for the suspensory pain and chemical arthrodesis of the lower hock joints was performed to help speed the fusion process.

Behavior is communication. Aggression, stallion-like behavior, irregular heat cycles, and poor performance are often a mare’s way of signaling reproductive distress. By listening to these cues we can prioritize equine welfare and look beyond the surface behavior to the physical cause. After a thorough veterinary evaluation, it was suspected that the mare had a hormone producing ovarian tumor (GCT) and this was confirmed on histopathology. We are grateful for owners, staff and referring vets who are very in tune with their horses and keep their comfort at the forefront!
