Happy Easter from one of our oldest gentlemen here at the ranch — this is Blackie.
At approximately 24 years old, Blackie has been with us for five years now. He was one of our very first rescues, and he truly has one of the gentlest souls you’ll ever meet.
When he first arrived, like so many of our rescues, his history was unknown. It was clear he had endured trauma in his past — his rear legs are heavily scarred and now arthritic, most likely from being caught in fencing. He also suffered damage to his lower jaw, which is misaligned and missing a chunk. Because of this and a couple of missing molars from age, Blackie often makes the most adorably goofy faces, complete with his tongue sticking out and lips smacking.
He’s on a special senior diet with mash and gets his teeth checked at least twice a year to keep him comfortable. Blackie is definitely spoiled around here — he gets plenty of extra treats, especially pears, which he absolutely loves!
We make sure Blackie receives all the love and care he deserves. He’ll spend the rest of his days surrounded by friends, enjoying lush pastures, endless treats, and plenty of belly scratchies — his absolute favorite.
