Another Greenville Kennel Club Rally trial is in the books. The Sunday trial kicked off with 11 Choice entries and 29 Master entries. Our judge, Karen Wrey, was fast, efficient, friendly and fair and we kept her busy all day.

No trial happens without volunteers and we always have the very best stewards. They never took their eye off the action and worked hard to keep all the classes moving without a hitch.

At the end of the day the helpers magically appeared to set up the rings for training Monday morning. We are so grateful to all the Happy Dogs members and friends that step up to help us make sure that the rings are always ready!

First the worker bees showed up and then a few exhibitors came and after a final day of trial prep ended, we turned out the lights. Tomorrow we will welcome the Greenville Kennel Club and all the Rally Exhibitors. It’s always a fun weekend watching dogs and their human team mates working together in the ring. Good luck to each and every one.

Last Saturday, we had a “Heeling FUNdraiser” at Happy Dogs. We allowed 20 entries, and they sold out in just a few hours! It was a long morning practicing heeling games and drills, but the teams had a blast and were surprised how they could have fun heeling for three whole hours.

It was a fantastic day filled with camaraderie and fun. In the afternoon, we had an old-fashioned “egg race,” and the competitive side of everyone really came out. After a few rounds, the finalists got serious. Here’s a video of the winning team coming across the finish line. Team Prentice took the lead early, didn’t give it up and won the prize! If you’ve ever been of the opinion that competition obedience is all formal and not fun, this day provided evidence how much fun it can be when done with friends.

Join us in congratulating Happy Dogs members and friends who celebrated big ribbons, special prizes, new titles, first legs in new classes, or hard-earned training goals. This is what the Happy Dogs community is all about: sharing accomplishments, lending a hand, and supporting our dog training community.

The Fall term for Competition Rally Teamwork classes is now open for sign-ups! These classes are designed to build a solid base for competitors, helping them get ready to compete and earn titles from Novice all the way up to the Master Class, plus the exciting path to a Rally Championship.

Classes kick off on Tuesday, October 22nd, and Thursday, October 24th. They’ll be held on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday evenings and include instruction for all levels, Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced.

Kathy is all set for her vacation, and we’ll all miss her at Rally Drop-ins at Happy Dogs! Her students and fellow Rally fans are especially going to miss her. It’s no surprise that Kathy found some wonderful volunteers to keep Rally Drop-ins going, even with a few tweaks while she’s away.

Happy Dogs will be open for Rally Drop-in training on the following days:

• Sun., Sept. 6th
• Thurs., Sept. 10th
• Sun., Sept. 13th
• Thurs., Sept. 17th
• Sun., Sept. 27th
• Sun., Oct. 4th
• Sun., Oct. 18th

Just a heads-up that Rally Drop-in won’t be happening on the following Thursdays and Sundays:

• Sun., Sept. 20th (GKC Rally Trial)
• Thurs., Sept. 24th
• Thurs., Oct. 1st
• Thurs., Oct. 8th
• Sun., Oct. 11th (DOCG Rally Trial)
• Thurs. October. 15th

The normal Drop-in schedule on Thursdays and Sundays will resume on Thursday, October 22nd. When in doubt, you can confirm Rally Drop-in dates on the “Training Calendar on the Happy Dogs” website.

Get ready! The National Obedience Championship and the Rally National Championship are just around the corner! Catch the action on AKC TV on July 16th and 17th to see local obedience exhibitors shine as they compete against some of the best obedience exhibitors in the country. And don’t miss the exciting Rally competition on July 18th and 19th!

Let’s all cheer for our local teams as they compete at these events. They’ve put in so much effort and trained all year to get an invitation and opportunity to show what they’ve got. We’ll be watching from our homes, rooting for them all the way through to the final sign or exercise!
