Good news!

Could lorazepam help reduce the risk of re-obstruction in male cats?

📊In a recent prospective, randomized study, none of the cats treated with lorazepam re-obstructed during the 30-day study period, compared with 15.7% of cats receiving a placebo. Cats in the lorazepam group also experienced fewer lower urinary tract signs.

The findings suggest that targeting skeletal muscle relaxation may offer a promising new approach following treatment for feline urethral obstruction, though larger studies are still needed.

🐱 Hyperthyroidism in Cats
A common condition I see in older cats... and it's often mistaken for "just getting old."

🚩 Signs to watch for:

🐾 Weight loss despite eating really well
🐾 Increased appetite
🐾 Drinking and peeing more
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Restlessness or hyperactivity
🐾 Poor or scruffy coat
🐾 Fast heart rate

If your older cat is eating like there's no tomorrow but is still losing weight, it's time for a vet check.
A simple blood test can usually diagnose hyperthyroidism, and there are a number of effective treatment options available.

Understanding why some pet owners do not seek veterinary care can provide useful insight into how they view the role of the veterinarian—and where opportunities may exist to reinforce the value of preventive care and regular checkups.

In 2025, 28.0% of surveyed cat owners reported no spending on veterinary care for their cats, compared with 16.1% of surveyed dog owners. The findings suggest that some pet owners may associate veterinary care primarily with treating illness or injury, rather than helping prevent disease and maintain health. This highlights an opportunity to help owners better understand the role of preventive care and regular checkups in keeping their pets happy and healthy.
