6 from colony collapse and 2 from the cold. We always predict there will be a loss from the cold.

We did not keep honeybees last year. Devastated.

Colony collapse disorder comes from pesticides. TruGreen, Round Up, commercial agriculture. Honeybees forage up to 7 miles from their hive and find their way back using several sophisticated internal systems.

Neonicanoids impair their ability to navigate. The workers that are foraging literally cannot find their way home.

How do we know? When you do a standard hive check and there aren't any workers, just a queen, her attendants, nurse bees and baby bees. No workers bringing food in.
