Hi! I'm Flick, and I'm this week's Pet of the Week!

I may be a little shy when you first walk up to say hello but give me a minute. Once I realize we're friends, there's a whole lot of fun personality waiting to come out.

My favorite part of the day? Getting out of my kennel and heading to the play yard! That's usually when I have some very important business to take care of my... ZOOMIES. Once I've gotten those out of my system, I'm more than happy to roll over and accept some belly rubs. What can I say? I believe in balance.

I'm an active, happy guy who volunteers say walks great on a leash. I'm also a big Tongue-Out Tuesday enthusiast, although I see no reason to limit it to Tuesdays.

So, if you're looking for a fun-loving companion who's ready for adventures but also appreciates a good belly rub, I might just be your guy.

AUGUST BY THE NUMBERS

This month, Weatherford Animal Services maintained a 95.63% live release rate, meaning over 95 of every 100 animals in our care left through adoption, reunion with their family, or transfer to a rescue partner. For context: the national shelter average sits around 68%, and 90% is generally considered the "no-kill" benchmark.

We're proud to be well above both and it's because of everyone who shows up for our animals.

Some of what August looked like:
🏠 160 adopted, 57 reunited with their families, 79 sent to rescue partners
🎉 22 of those adoptions happened in one afternoon at Clear the Shelter
🏥 398 spay/neuters and 1,291 vaccinations from our medical team
🐈 203 community cats trapped, fixed, and returned .
🙌 32 new volunteers joined our active volunteers in donating 971 hours this month
📞 217 calls answered by our Animal Control Officers, from welfare checks to wildlife calls
654 animals came through our doors this month which is about 21 every single day.

Every one of those numbers is a life, and none of it happens without our staff, volunteers, fosters, rescue partners, and adopters. Thank you for showing up for the animals of Weatherford. 💜

🖤 They're not boring. They're just overlooked. 🖤

Here's something wild: Researchers can't even agree on whether black dogs really do get passed over more in shelters. Some studies say yes, some say no. But we don't need a study to tell us what we see every single day at Weatherford Animal Shelter: we have SO many incredible black dogs waiting, and waiting, and waiting for someone to give them a second look.

They're just as goofy, snuggly, loyal, and ready to love as any other dog here.

From now through 9-12-26, every black dog adoption at Weatherford Animal Shelter is just $10.

That's it. $10 for a lifetime of tail wags, muddy paw prints, and unconditional love.

Come meet them in person. We promise , once you look past the coat, you'll fall for the dog underneath.
