Mark your calendars for TOMORROW MAY 27th ! They do 100 FREE IN TRAPS. Kitten season is in full swing so NOW is the time to TNR them for FREE! ALL RESCUES ARE FULL and can not take your kittens so NOW is time to get those feral cats spay/neutered.
🐾 WHISKER WEDNESDAY is this week – MAY 27 — Don’t Miss Out! Community cats everywhere are out there in heat or pregnant NOW! It is a very hard and miserable life for kittens born outside and for the mother cats trying to keep them alive. The majority of kittens born outside never see their first birthday. People are bringing in “orphaned” kittens almost daily to the shelter, many near death. YOU can prevent that by getting both of the parents fixed before any kittens are born.
Our FREE spay/neuter program for community cats is happening this WEDNESDAY, MAY 27! We will be accepting the first 100 cats from our service area inside Parker County—so be sure to arrive early!
📍 Important Details:
✅ You must be a resident of our service areas within Parker County.
✅ Cats must be in appropriately sized live traps (no squirrel traps—cats must be able to lay on their side comfortably, as this is where they recover post-surgery). One cat per trap.
✅ Gate opens for drop-off at around 8:30 AM, until 100 cats have checked in. The line starts forming early, SO DON’T BE LATE!
✅ Same-day pickup times will be assigned at drop-off.
Please be sure you have a safe temperature-controlled place to hold them overnight, as they will not be able to regulate their body temperature after surgery. Use that flattened Chewy/Amazon box to set the traps on (can also add p*e pads) to collect their waste overnight. Set them up in a bathroom or bathtub or laundry room where they can rest undisturbed.
‼️ Please make sure that they are in a live trap! CARRIERS or WIRE CRATES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ON WHISKER WEDNESDAY! Cats not in live traps will be turned away! Please do not use small squirrel traps for adult cats! There needs to be room to lay the unconscious cat in the trap after surgery, and there needs to be room for them to stand up as they are waking up. ONLY ONE CAT PER TRAP! ‼️ If you catch two cats in one trap, bring an extra trap (empty), and we will assist you in transferring one cat to the extra trap.
Cover the traps with an old towel or sheet to help calm the cat. ALWAYS secure the trap doors with a zip tie (or something similar). Traps with rings on either side of the door can allow escape if it tilts, as can some of the cheaper traps.
All cats will get a notch cut in one ear (NO EXCEPTIONS), which tells anyone who sees the cat that he has already been fixed.
Traps are available for loan at our shelter with a $50 returnable deposit, as well as at Weatherford Whiskers with a $75 credit card deposit (not charged if traps returned in good condition within 2 weeks).
This program plays a huge role in reducing the community cat population, and we appreciate your participation! 🐾

💜 See you on Wednesday, and thank you for helping us make a difference!
