🐱✨ How Does Radioiodine Therapy Work? ✨🐱

If your cat has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, your veterinarian may discuss a treatment option called radioiodine therapy (I-131).

So, how does it work? 🧪👇

The thyroid gland naturally uses iodine to make thyroid hormones. Radioiodine therapy takes advantage of this by using a small, targeted dose of radioactive iodine that is absorbed directly by the overactive thyroid tissue.

Once inside the thyroid gland, the radioiodine:
🔹 Targets and destroys the abnormal thyroid cells
🔹 Helps reduce excessive thyroid hormone production

Common Allergens:

Signs Your Pet Might Have Allergies
Itchy, red, or inflamed skin

Excessive licking, chewing, or scratching (especially paws, ears, belly)

Recurring ear or skin infections

Hair loss or “hot spots”

Sneezing, watery eyes, or nasal discharge
