What a great weekend to wrap up our summer and regular hunt test season!

Our daughter Evie brought Bishop out of hunt test retirement to compete at Started and they ran a great test! This was Evie’s HRC hunt test handling debut, at just 6.5 years old, and she was the only junior handler to compete the whole weekend. She and Bishop have been working hard together all year preparing for this test. There was a lot of mixed emotions watching my first-born handle the yella dog that started it all 12 years ago.
One’s near the end of her journey while the other’s just beginning…

It was a different pace for me this weekend as most of the dogs were being handled by their owners and I got to enjoy coaching my little junior handler team. Rooster and I earned another finished pass which puts us one step closer to 500 points and I was honored to judge Sunday’s Seasoned test.

Overall it was a great weekend at S**o River HRC. Thank you to all the landowners, judges, and workers who continue to make weekends like this go smoothly.

Happy National Dog Day!

We have had a very full and busy summer here on the farm! Especially with all the boarding dogs that came to stay with us over the summer.

We have not had a single day without a boarding dog since June 4th!

Since the beginning or June, we have enjoyed the company of: Liberty, Cocoa, Dobbs, Montero, Cooper, Stout, Desmond, Otis, Maple, Gus, Hope and Pete, Lucy, Coop, Daisy, Bella, Penny, Jax and Norman, Mable, Eddie, Obie, Gunther and Hazel, Wesley, Tina, Woody and Summit. Sherman, Koda and George are joining us next week as well.

It’s been such a blast having them all, each one fits into the pack differently and brings their own unique energy and personality! We love having other’s beloved family members share our home, but the fall always brings a welcome reprieve and a chance to reset, before things start to pick up for the holiday season.

That said, if you have interest in boarding your pup with us over the holidays, please reach out sooner than later to get on the books!
