In 1986, Dr. Kern started his practice working out of a modular building in the back of the property while completing renovations to what has now become Balsam Animal Hospital, PA. With the support of the community and his staff, Dr. Kern continues to provide quality health care in Haywood and Neighboring Counties. Dr. Kern attended Tulane University and transferre
d to University of Georgia, completing his studies in Veterinary Medicine. Graduating in 1980, he worked in New Orleans for several years before moving back to Western North Carolina where he spent part of his childhood. After working at the Emergency Hospital in the Asheville area, he decided it was time to open his own practice. After much consideration he purchased a building in Hazelwood, which later became part of the Town of Waynesville. Opening his practice in 1986 after extensive remodeling, he found a place to call home while providing a much needed Veterinarian Hospital on the West side of town. Still practicing in the same location, Dr. Kern always welcomes new patients providing the same quality of care in a clean and friendly environment.
