🌿 AVAILABLE SOON: Garden Salad!

Meet Garden Salad, a 3-year-old, 25-pound mixed-breed mama with the biggest ears and an even bigger heart.

Eight weeks ago, this petite lady gave birth to our Leafy Green litter. Yesterday, she was officially spayed, and now it’s finally her turn to be someone’s baby!

Garden Salad takes approximately one whole second to warm up to you. After that, she’s ready to show off her zoomies, flop onto her back for belly rubs, and let her playful personality shine.

She’s still building her confidence and would love a home where she can continue to blossom at her own pace. She’s lived with other dogs before, too!

Garden Salad is recovering from her recent spay and will be available for adoption soon. Keep an eye out for this big-eared little lady. She’s officially retired from motherhood and ready for her next adventure!

Princess Bubblegum is 7 years old, and honestly, she’s living up to her name. 🍬

This sweet girl appreciates the finer things in life: a cozy bed, an afternoon snack, a little catnip now and then, and someone willing to stop what they’re doing to give her pets. When the attention starts, she’ll show off her signature tippy-toe walk, and if she really wants you to notice her, she might just throw in a few dolphin hops for good measure.

Lately, Princess has been spending time with our executive director in her office, where she’s taken on the very important role of email supervisor, lap warmer, and professional distraction. Productivity has taken a hit. Nobody seems particularly upset about it.

Princess has lived with other cats before, and with a slow, proper introduction, she would be able to share her home with dogs too.

At 7 years old, she knows what she likes, appreciates the little things, and has plenty of love left to give. She’s ready for a home where she can settle into her favorite bed, collect her afternoon snacks, and remind her people that whatever they’re doing can probably wait until after cuddle time.

Rescue work means expecting the unexpected. When Bear arrived at Sarge’s in July, we thought his ear infection would clear up with antibiotics and he’d be on his way to finding a family.

We were wrong.

Despite weeks of treatment, multiple exams, and additional testing, Bear’s ear infection has continued to worsen. His ears are so painful that he now hides when he sees our Medical Coordinator approaching, associating the person trying to help him with the discomfort of treatment.

After working closely with Dr. Bull, we’ve determined that Bear needs TECA surgery to remove the affected ear canal and eliminate the source of his recurring infections. While he’ll lose hearing in his right ear, the surgery offers him a chance at a more comfortable life without the constant pain.

Lifelong medication and ear cleanings would be the alternative, and we don’t want Bear’s future adopter to have to build their relationship with him around treatments he’s learned to fear.

The cost of this specialty surgery is roughly $4,000, and we need your help to make it happen. His scheduled surgery is at the beginning of November with East Asheville Family Vet. For some rescues, expenses like these can lead to heartbreaking decisions about an animal’s quality of life. We want Bear to have the chance he deserves, and we won’t let this stand in the way of finding his forever home.

Brenda Jo has figured out that couches are for napping, humans are for scratching, and walks are for sniffing absolutely everything. She’s got this whole house dog thing down to a science.

This 5-year-old hound has been spending time in a foster home, taking a break from shelter life while she waits for her forever family to get their act together and come find her.

In the meantime, she’s been coming out of her shell and discovering her full potential as a professional house dog. She’s potty trained, crate trained, and has mastered the art of claiming the couch for an afternoon nap. She’s also successfully trained her foster to provide an impressive amount of head and ear scratches. She’s doing a great job managing the household.

Brenda Jo loves her daily walks, where every blade of grass has a story and every new smell deserves a thorough investigation. She enjoys attention, appreciates the finer things in life, and believes a good nap can solve just about anything.

She’s building her confidence, settling into the comforts of home, and showing us more of her personality every day. Now she just needs someone to make this foster vacation permanent.

We’re hitting the road this Friday! 🐾

Sarge’s will be joining the WLOS ABC 13 Pet Project Adoption Event this Friday, October 16, from 11 AM to 5 PM at the South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty parking lot in Asheville!

We’ll be bringing along some of our adoptable dogs throughout the day, hoping a few of them will leave with something better than a car ride home: a family of their very own.

We’ll be joining other incredible animal rescues, animal lovers, and advocates, all coming together with one shared goal: spreading awareness about adoption and helping pets find the loving homes they deserve.

We’re thrilled to be invited back for another year alongside so many amazing organizations doing important work for animals in our community. Every adoption makes a difference, and events like this give more pets the chance to meet the people who will change their lives.

If you’re in the Asheville area this Friday, stop by, say hello, meet some adoptable dogs, and help us spread the word that adoption is always worth celebrating!

Happy Tuesday from Sarge’s!

Tuesdays mark the start of our week, and with it comes a fresh batch of hope that this could be the week our animals meet their people. The ones who see their goofy personalities, appreciate their quirks, and decide they’re exactly who they’ve been looking for.

We have kittens and puppies, adult cats and dogs, and a little bit of everything in between. Young babies just discovering the world, awkward teenagers figuring out where their feet go, young adults still learning the ropes, middle-aged know-it-alls who are pretty sure they have everything figured out, and seniors who refuse to act their age.

There’s a whole lot of personality waiting to be discovered here, and we can’t wait for you to meet them!

🌎 Meet Earth. Five months old, endlessly playful, and already three steps ahead of you.

While other kittens are playing checkers, Earth is playing chess. He’s got the brains, the charm, and a game plan, and he’s not afraid to use all three.

Earth loves to play just as much as any kitten his age, but he approaches playtime like a carefully planned operation. Stealthy sneak attacks? Executed flawlessly. Learning his opponent’s weaknesses? Part of the strategy. Coming out on top of every play match? Just another day at the office.

This clever boy is social, friendly, and charming enough to get away with just about anything. He watches, learns, adapts, and comes back with an improved strategy. You might think you’re playing with a kitten, but Earth is already running the whole operation.

Now he’s ready to find a home where he can put that brilliant little brain to work, keep his people entertained, and remind everyone that sometimes the smallest player has the biggest strategy.

Meet Puddin, the 6-month-old pittie pup who has quickly worked her way into the hearts of Sarge’s staff and volunteers.

At just 30 pounds, Puddin has a petite little body packed with personality. She’s eager to learn, loves expanding her skills, and isn’t afraid to join in with our rowdiest dogs. She can keep up with the action, but she’s just as happy leaning into you for cuddles when it’s time to slow down.

Puddin has done well around other dogs and children, and she’s had a few brief introductions to cats. So far, she thinks they’re very interesting little creatures she’d love to play with and investigate. As with any puppy, she’ll need guidance as she continues learning how to navigate the world.

She’s building confidence every day, loves hitting the trails for a hike, and firmly believes the best place to be is wherever the action is happening. Whether she’s learning something new, making friends, exploring outside, or keeping you company, Puddin is ready to be part of it all.

This petite girl has a whole lot of love, personality, and potential packed into her 30-pound frame. Now she just needs a family ready to help her grow into the incredible dog she’s becoming.

🔥 Meet Fire. Five months old and absolutely no sense of self-preservation.

If you’re looking for a kitten who looks like he’s been stretched out and runs on pure chaos, Fire is your guy.

Curiosity got the cat with this one, and his nosiness knows no bounds. He’s overly confident, ridiculously social, an expert climber, and just clumsy enough to make his questionable life choices even more entertaining.

Fire will try anything at least once. Climb it? Absolutely. Jump off it? Probably. Stick his nose somewhere it doesn’t belong? Already on it.

He’s in his adolescent wild child era, treating every day like an extreme sports competition and every piece of furniture like a personal obstacle course. The confidence is impressive. The coordination is still a work in progress.

Now Fire is ready to find a home where he can practice his stunts, keep his people entertained, and put his seemingly endless supply of energy to good use.

🥬 INTRODUCING SARGE’S LEAFY GREEN LITTER! 🥬

Five silly little vegetables, zero nutritional value, and an absolutely unreasonable amount of cuteness.

Meet our leafy little lineup:
Brussel Sprout – Female
Swiss Chard – Female
Spinach – Female
Kale – Female
Arugula – Male

These mixed-breed puppies are expected to grow into 35–45 lb adults, which means they’re bringing plenty of puppy fun without necessarily taking up the entire couch. No promises about personal space, though.

Our little greens will be ready to start heading home THIS WEEK through Sarge’s Foster-to-Adopt program! They’ll continue their vaccine series while in their new homes and return to Sarge’s for their remaining veterinary appointments, including spay/neuter surgery. It’s a great way to get started on life together while making sure they receive the care they need to grow up healthy.

🌱 A few things to know: Adopters must live within a commutable distance of Sarge’s in Waynesville, so they can bring their puppy back for scheduled veterinary appointments.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to add a little green to your life, this might be it. These five are ready to grow into your very best friends.
