🫀Heartworm Disease: It Only Takes One

🦟Contrary to popular belief, mosquitoes are active year-round in North Carolina. What does this mean for your pet? ➡️ That heartworm disease is a year-round threat.

1️⃣ bite from a mosquito can give a dog heartworm disease. Even if your dog only goes outside to use the bathroom, mosquitoes can still enter your home without you knowing.

❓What even is heartworm disease?
Transmitted from mosquitoes, heartworm larvae mature inside your dog, living in major vessels around the heart and sometimes in the heart itself. Adult heartworms can grow up to a FOOT in length and take at least 6 months to appear on routine heartworm tests.
