8 weeks may be normal for some breeds, but I do not believe it is ideal for bulldog puppies.

Bulldogs mature slower. Their gut biome is still developing, their immune system is still trying to build its own protection, and their brain is not fully ready for the stress of the outside world.

This is also the age where the immunity gap matters. The protection they received from mom is fading, but their own immune system is not fully built yet. That is not the stage where I want to add a new home, new germs, new stress, new food, and a completely new routine if I can avoid it.

The gut matters here too. Stress can disrupt digestion fast in bulldog puppies. A puppy that was doing well can suddenly struggle with loose stool, poor appetite, or setbacks simply because their system was not ready for that much change at once.

I also think about respiratory risk. Bulldogs are already a breed where stress, overheating, crying, excitement, and overhandling can affect breathing. Sending them home too early can put pressure on a puppy that is still physically and neurologically immature.

That is why our puppies usually go home closer to 11–12 weeks. It gives them more time with mom, more time with littermates, more time for the gut and immune system to mature, and more time to become mentally ready for the transition.

Not because it is easier for us.

Because it is better for the puppy.
