Last week, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office received a call about four horses in need. The complaint was about possible neglect, so they contacted the pound for assistance. Warden Compton has some history with horses, so he met the deputy to see them. All four of them were senior horses. The owner was experiencing major health problems and due to his age, he needed to make sure the horses had somewhere to go.

This was more of horses needing a helping hand. Our organization’s mission is not to manage horses, but I do know people in rescue. Bella Run was contacted and asked for advice on the condition. Warden Compton and the rescue agreed they needed to out of there so they could get care. I posted to see if I could find a transporter and a rescue friend agreed to travel two and a half hours to Pike County.

Being on the property was not easy. The horses were scared of strangers and did not want to be handled. After fighting weeds and briars, they finally got them loaded on the trailer. Once they arrived at the arena, they did not quite know what to think. It was empty, open and clean. They were moved into stalls and received clean food and water.

All of them are senior horses with health and pain issues. After they are settled, they will have a full work up. For now, they need rest.
If you want to help Bella Run, please give on the link.
