It’s been a little over three weeks since Wakko, first our family pet and then our beloved clinic cat, passed away on January 26th. I took this picture of Henry and Coralie saying their goodbyes right before he passed.

He was a wonderful cat. I remember when I found him on a walk as a little kitten. He ran over to Rufus, my hound-shepherd mix, and they were instant best friends. Now, they’re together again. I’ll miss him. He gave me, my family, my staff, and everyone else all his love (and a few nibbles) for 16 years. 🌈

Twelve years wasn’t long enough, but they were a great twelve years. You gave blood to three dogs without even flinching, helping save their lives. You were there for so many life changes: my marriage, the birth of our two kids, two job changes, opening my business, and moving to our new home.

In my heart, you’ll always be that goofy, happy-go-lucky puppy from the Humane Society, who chewed a hole in my kitchen floor and laid in your kennel with Wakko. Heaven gained a good boy. I can picture a welcome party at the Bridge with Makakoa, Cloaca, Simon, Scout, and Sparky. Say “hi” to Brett and Dukie who went before you and greeted you with the others.

RIP Rufus…until we meet again.
