The story of our sweet boy Uecker is a mystery to us. Uecker has lived his entire life outdoors and has seen things even he does not want to talk about. He does not want to relive the days he had no food, shelter or a kind hand to scratch his handsome face. He does not want to relive the fights he had trying to survive the outdoors. His body shows the scars and scrapes of survival - and he is a survivor. He would like to thank the kind family that gave him a place to rest on their deck - a comfortable bed, food, water and plenty of affection. We accepted Uecker into our Shelter because he deserves to have a Forever Home indoors where he can be loved and protected. He is a VERY affectionate guy. He loves everyone he meets and will definitely not turn down ear scratches and lots of hugs.
Uecker did test positive for FIV. FIV attacks a cat's immune system making them more vulnerable to infections. FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds from infected cats. It is not spread through casual contact such as sharing food and water bowls or grooming. It is NOT transmittable to humans. FIV Positive cats can live for many years as long as they are kept indoors, are provided a balanced diet (no raw foods) and are seen by their veterinarian on a regular basis. If you have any concerns about adopting an FIV Positive cat, please feel free to consult with your veterinarian.
Uecker's estimated DOB is 9-2-2023. He is neutered, microchipped, and is current on age-appropriate vaccinations.
Please do not let his FIV Positive Status frighten you. He will definitely fill your home with lots of love.
As a side note, we did have Uecker out with our other FIV Positive cat Saphire and they did amazing together.
Please feel free to come meet Uecker (and Saphire) during our Open Hours on Monday 4-7 pm and Thursday 2-6 pm.
