We had the opportunity to scan sweet Scout after Sip & Purr Cat Cafe wanted to double check everything and make sure he was all set before heading to his forever home. 💜

Scout was one of the cats rescued from the streets of Beirut and brought to safety in the U.S. earlier this year. After spending so long waiting for his chance, he finally made the journey, and we’re so glad he did.

Following his rescue, Scout underwent surgery that left behind some scar tissue, giving him his now well-known snorty sound. To be absolutely sure nothing more was going on, their team went the extra mile with multiple vet visits and a CT scan with us.

Thankfully, imaging showed no underlying concerns, just a unique little quirk that makes Scout who he is.

We truly admire the work Sip & Purr does to give cats like Scout a second chance, and we’re grateful to have been part of his story. Wishing him a happy, cozy life in his new home. 🐾

Jet was such a sweet guy 💙 He recently visited our COVE Outpatient Imaging Center for a CT of his skull and thorax to check for a possible nasal mass. Advanced imaging helps veterinary teams get clear answers and guide the best care for their patients.

You’d never guess by looking at him, but this tough guy recently had both a head and thoracic CT at our outpatient imaging center in Farmington Hills, MI. His oncologist recommends quarterly head CTs to keep a close eye on things after some pretty radical surgery to his right upper jaw.

Don’t worry, the Mohawk is intentional 😎💇‍♂️ and according to his owner, Charlie was back to his “crazy self” the next morning!

WEEK 7: Cracking the Case with CT for Soft Tissue Mass Evaluation

When a mass is detected, time matters. CT offers a fast, detailed view of soft tissue tumors—differentiating them from surrounding structures, determining invasiveness, and guiding both surgical and oncologic planning.

📍 Case Highlight:
Patient came to The COVE after two weeks of progressive left hind limb lameness. By the time of evaluation, he was non-weight bearing with noticeable edema.

🔍 CT Results:
- A 9.5 cm mildly contrast-enhancing, fluid-attenuating mass in the proximal medial left hind limb, most likely arising from the adductor brevis muscle
- No bony involvement seen—critical for surgical consideration
- Enlarged left inguinal and medial iliac lymph nodes raised concern for possible spread
- Mild limb edema likely secondary to the mass
- An incidental subcutaneous lipoma also noted

🔬 Next Steps:
Ultrasound-guided biopsy confirmed the need for oncologic intervention. Whiskey’s care team used the clear anatomical roadmap from the CT to guide a safe and targeted tissue sampling.

🧠 Takeaway:
CT helped distinguish tumor from normal tissue, assess lymph node status, and enable biopsy and treatment decisions—all in one visit.

WEEK 6: Cracking the Case with CT to Investigate Abdominal Masses

CT Indication: Abdominal Masses
From incidental findings to surgical planning, CT helps precisely localize masses, determine vascular involvement, and evaluate for metastasis—all critical steps before intervention.

Case Highlight:
Patient had been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, but his clinical signs didn’t quite match. An abdominal ultrasound raised concern about a right adrenal mass with possible vascular invasion, so he was referred for CT to map the anatomy for surgical planning.

🔬 What CT Revealed:
- A heterogeneously enhancing 3.5cm right adrenal mass with central mineralization
- The mass extended into the caudal vena cava—likely via the phrenicoabdominal vein—causing significant vascular dilation
- Multiple small, ill-defined liver nodules, likely benign
- No evidence of metastasis in the chest or abdomen

🧠 Takeaway:
Patient’s CT gave his care team the precise vascular and soft tissue roadmap needed to weigh surgical risks, rule out obvious metastasis, and proceed with informed decision-making. While adrenal tumors can be aggressive, CT imaging helped the team plan a path forward.

WEEK 5: Cracking the Case with CT for Vascular Anomalies

CT Indication: CT angiography provides precise, 3D visualization of vascular malformations like portosystemic shunts, aneurysms, or vascular ring anomalies—critical for diagnosis and surgical planning.

📍 Case Spotlight:
Patient was originally in for a routine neuter, but his pre-op bloodwork revealed an elevated ALT (529). A follow-up abdominal ultrasound raised suspicion of a congenital portosystemic shunt—confirmed by elevated bile acids.

🔬 What CT Revealed:
- A dilated left gastric vein diverting blood from the GI tract to the caudal vena cava
- A small portal vein post-gastroduodenal junction
- Findings consistent with a congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt (left gastrophrenic)
- Incidental finding: duplicated caudal vena cava caudal to L4

💡 Why This Matters:
CT gave the precise vascular map needed to refer patient for surgical correction. Now? He’s living large, shunt-free, and feeling better than ever.
