Women have helped shape veterinary medicine into the profession it is today through persistence, expertise, and leadership. 🩺

From earning the first veterinary degrees to leading professional organizations and advancing clinical practice, these milestones represent meaningful progress in representation across the field. 📚

Today, women make up the majority of the U.S. veterinary workforce, a shift that reflects decades of dedication and contribution. 📈

This International Women’s Day, we recognize the individuals who advanced the profession and helped build the future of veterinary medicine. 🌎

Valentine’s Day plans?

Ours include wagging tails, loud purrs, and at least one patient who pretends we’re personally victimizing them. 😹💘
We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our amazing clients and their lovable (and sometimes dramatic) pets. We love what we do because of YOU! 🐾💕

🚨 When It IS an Emergency
Seek immediate care if your pet is experiencing:
• Trouble breathing or blue/pale gums
• Seizures, collapse, or sudden unresponsiveness
• Hit by a car, severe trauma, or uncontrolled bleeding
• Ingestion of toxins, medications, or foreign objects
• Straining to urinate or inability to urinate
• Severe pain, bloated abdomen, or nonstop vomiting

⏳ When It’s Usually NOT an Emergency
These concerns are often best handled by your primary care veterinarian:
• Mild limping or stiffness without severe pain
• Occasional vomiting or diarrhea when your pet is otherwise acting normal
• Minor cuts or abrasions that aren’t actively bleeding
• Chronic ear or skin issues
• Small changes in appetite or energy lasting less than 24 hours

💙 When in doubt, trust your gut. If something feels urgent or your pet seems distressed, emergency care is always the right call.

Fun Fact Friday: Did you know animals can be blood donors too? 🩸🐾

Dogs and cats can donate blood to help other pets during emergencies, surgeries, trauma, or serious illnesses. A single dog donation can help save multiple patients, and cats have specific blood types that make having donor blood especially important.

Most donor pets are healthy, calm, and meet certain age and weight requirements to ensure the process is safe for them. These amazing animals play a quiet but critical role in lifesaving care—helping other pets when they need it most. ❤️🐶🐱
