Growing up on a farm is SO different than having a farm as an adult. 😂🐔

When you grow up on a farm, you just think, “Yep, that’s farm life.” You don’t necessarily realize all the completely bizarre things that farmers deal with behind the scenes.

Like yesterday… I spent part of my day applying honey and Monistat to a chicken’s butt and repeatedly putting a pr*****ed vent back where it belongs. 😵‍💫

Yep. You read that right.

She was straining, her vent pr*****ed, and suddenly I found myself providing chicken butt medical care like it was the most normal thing in the world.

And honestly? This is one of the things you don’t see that makes farmers a different breed.
You learn to problem-solve. You get your hands dirty. You care for things that depend on you. You do the weird, gross, unexpected jobs because somebody has to.

And the best part?

She’s alive and well, her butt is back where it belongs, and she’s back to laying eggs. 😂🥚

Farm life isn’t always picturesque.

Sometimes it’s muddy boots and fresh eggs.

Sometimes it’s honey, Monistat and a chicken butt.

And apparently… I’m qualified for both. 🤣🐔

Everyone else flew away. One baby stayed behind.

At sunrise, Mama Finch returned not to scold, not to rush, but to feed her and cheer her on.

Sometimes we all need a little snack, a loving pep talk, and someone who believes we’re ready to fly. ❤️🐦

Today was the day, all babies have left the nest but one. She will prob join her family in the yard under the bushes at some point today.

Right on schedule for about 15–16 days old.

* ✅ They are fully feathered.
* ✅ Their tails and wing feathers are well developed.
* ✅ They are filling the nest and look crowded.
* ✅ They have the fluffy, streaked juvenile appearance typical of fledging-age house finches.

Expecting them to start leaving the nest any day now, possibly within the next 1–4 days. The first flights can seem sudden, and some siblings may leave before others.

Interesting facts:

* Once they fledge, they usually do not return to the nest to sleep.
* Mom and dad will continue feeding them outside the nest for another 2–3 weeks.
* It’s normal if you don’t see them immediately after they leave—they often hide in shrubs and nearby trees.

Babies are getting so big!

Five tiny beaks. Endless appetites. 🐦🌻

Watching these baby house finches grow has been one of the sweetest surprises. These little ones are getting bigger every day.

All five baby finches are doing well and were spotted with their mouths open wide, waiting for breakfast. Mom and Dad have been busy making constant trips to keep up with five hungry little hatchlings!

It’s amazing how quickly they’re growing already. 🐦🌿

🐦 Baby Bird Update! 🐦

The little finches are growing fast and getting stronger every day! You can hear lots of activity in the nest as the parents work nonstop bringing food and caring for all five babies.

Please excuse the background noise in the video — there were quite a few cars passing by while recording. The stars of the show are still the hungry little nestlings and their dedicated parents!

Nature is amazing to watch unfold right outside our door. Stay tuned for more updates from the nest as these tiny birds continue to grow. 🌿🐣

🐣 All 5 House Finch eggs hatched today—on just Day 11 of incubation!

It’s amazing to see five tiny hatchlings where there were eggs just this morning. Mom and Dad have done an incredible job, and we can’t wait to watch these little ones grow.

🐣 The Rego Ranch Finch Update – Day 7

Our dedicated House Finch mom is halfway through incubation and doing an amazing job caring for her 5 eggs!

We have been observing her carefully rotating the eggs about every 15 minutes, then settling in for a quick snooze before repeating the process. She only leaves the nest briefly once or twice during the day to grab a bite to eat, always returning quickly to keep her eggs warm.

Meanwhile, dad is staying close by, keeping watch over the nest and his growing family.

If all goes well, we’re about halfway to hatch day! Stay tuned for more updates from our little feathered family here at The Rego Ranch. 🪺❤️
