Remembering a legend, husband, father and lifelong friend to the horse
On June 14, Dr. G. Marvin Beeman, DVM, MFH, passed away, leaving this world exactly as he would have wished: doing what he loved most, riding with the hounds. We salute and celebrate the extraordinary life of this consummate "horseman’s horseman" whose profound legacy spans generations, disciplines, and the very soul of the American West.
A Foundation of Family
Behind Dr. Beeman’s staggering lifetime of professional achievements stood a deep devotion to his family. His ultimate teammate in life was his beloved wife of over 71 years, Eunice Beeman, whom he met at Colorado State University. His deep respect for the land and livestock lives on proudly through his children, Laurie Ann Beeman and Grant Beeman, who walked alongside him through his grandest adventures.
The Heartbeat of the Arapahoe Hunt & MFHA
To speak of Marvin Beeman is to speak of the Arapahoe Hunt Club, famous for chasing the swift coyotes of the Colorado plains. Raised at the Arapahoe kennels, Marvin began whipping-in at just ten years old and turned hounds to his father, George, for 42 years before taking the horn himself as Huntsman in 1986.
His unparalleled sporting diplomacy led him to serve as President of the Masters of Foxhounds Association of America (MFHA)from 2008 to 2011, making history as the first president from a pack west of the Mississippi. He and his father both achieved the rare honor of induction into the Huntsman’s Room at the Museum of Hounds and Hunting North America.
Hall of Fame Legacy & Spirit of the West
Dr. Beeman’s brilliance stretched from local plains to the global stage. A world-renowned equine veterinarian, co-founder of Littleton Equine Medical Center, and past president of the AAEP, he managed the care of the 1984 Olympic gold-medal jumper, Calypso. His contributions earned him well-deserved places in numerous Equine Halls of Fame, including:
The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame
The Colorado Agricultural Hall of Fame
The International Stockman’s Hall of Fame
The American Farrier’s Association International Horseman’s Hall of Fame
Despite his global acclaim, his heart belonged to the West. He was a dedicated, 60-year member of the Round Up Riders of the Rockies, earning the coveted Round Up Rider of the Year award, and was honored as Denver's Citizen of the West.
"I was 18 years old before I knew you could make a living other than by being on a horse." — Dr. G. Marvin Beeman
Dr. Beeman’s departure marks the end of an era, but he has ridden into his final sunset on the ultimate high note. His immense contributions to veterinary science and the thunderous joy of the hunt will be celebrated for generations.
We will keep our Arapahoe Hunt family posted on memorial celebration plans as they are made, and we extend our deepest, most heartfelt sympathy to the Beeman family during this time.
