🐶💤🐱 THE MORE YOU KNOW THURSDAY: DREAM BIG, NAP OFTEN! 🐱💤🐶

The Cat Management Team has finally found something dogs and cats can agree on … a good nap is serious business.

Both dogs and cats experience REM sleep, the sleep stage associated with dreaming in humans. Research suggests our furry family members likely dream, too!

Those little paw twitches, whisker movements, and occasional sleepy sounds can happen during this stage. We cannot know exactly what they are dreaming about, but Feline Management has theories.

🐶 Dog dreams: Finally catching the squirrel. An endless game of fetch. Discovering that every passenger at the drive-through gets a treat.

🐱 Cat dreams: Owning the house.

Actually, that last one is more of a current situation. Dr. Porter has not figured it out yet. We will try to remain patient as she does.

Harlow dreams of humans who follow instructions the first time. Karma dreams of a treat bag that never reaches the disappointing crinkly-bottom stage. Ivy dreams of opening every closed door, then deciding she would rather stay where she is.

Give your pets a comfortable, quiet place to rest, and let sleeping pets sleep. Even a gentle pet can startle if suddenly awakened.

If you notice new, forceful, or unusual movements during sleep, contact Blue River Veterinary Clinic rather than assuming it is simply a dream.

Now for your assignment: Give your pet’s dream a movie title! 🎬📸

🐾 The Fast and the Furriest
🐾 Mission Impossible: The Closed Pantry
🐾 The Silence of the Vacuum
🐾 Cloudy with a Chance of Treats

Share a sleeping picture and their dream’s title in the comments. We want to see the upside-down sleepers, blanket burrowers, and pets apparently assembled without instructions. 😹

🎃🐾 WEDNESDAY WISDOM: THE CANDY BOWL IS NOT A PET BUFFET! 🐾🎃

The Cat Management Team has noticed humans purchasing enormous bags of candy “for the trick-or-treaters.”

Interesting. The trick-or-treaters apparently visited your kitchen three times last night wearing your pajamas.

While we respect your commitment to snacks, Halloween candy needs to stay out of reach of curious paws.

🍫 Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats. Dark and baking chocolate are especially dangerous.

🍬 Some sugar-free candy and gum contain xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs. “Sugar-free” does not mean pet-safe.

🗑️ Wrappers are a hazard, too. Swallowed packaging can cause intestinal blockages. Dogs do not always unwrap their stolen merchandise before eating it.

Keep candy in a securely closed cabinet, pick up dropped treats, and make sure children’s candy bags are somewhere pets cannot raid them.

Harlow has appointed herself Director of Candy Security. Ivy is investigating every crinkling sound. Karma has demanded a separate bowl of cat treats because “excluding management from refreshments creates a hostile work environment.”

If your pet eats chocolate, something containing xylitol, or another potentially harmful item, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary clinic immediately. Do not wait for symptoms or induce vomiting unless instructed. Save the packaging so the veterinary team can identify what was eaten.

Now, what would your pet’s Halloween warning label say? 😹

🎃 “Will perform tricks. Payment required.”
🎃 “Do not leave unattended near snacks.”
🎃 “Looks innocent. Check the security footage.”

Share their warning label and a picture in the comments!

☕🐾 TUESDAY STAFF MEETING: CAFFEINE & CHOREOGRAPHY 🐾💃

The Cat Management Team LOVES Tuesday staff meetings for one very important reason: Coffee Crossing drinks.

The humans arrive with fancy beverages, which we assume means someone also remembered treats for the employees who work closest to the floor.

We have yet to see the refreshments budget, but Harlow is prepared to sit on it until negotiations improve.

This week, everyone needs a little extra energy. The humans have work to do, and we cats have been staying up late preparing for a cat dance competition.

How are we learning the routines?

We may have drilled a few tiny observation holes through the wall to watch the Waterville Dance classes next door.

Before anyone calls this “stealing free lessons,” we prefer independent study with extremely limited visibility.

Harlow handles choreography and insists everyone follow her lead. Karma keeps stopping rehearsal to ask when the snack break starts. Ivy has perfected a dramatic floor routine, although the humans keep calling it “rolling around.”

Our signature move involves knocking something off a shelf, making direct eye contact, and exiting sideways at full speed.

Beth, when we accept our dance awards, we WILL thank you during the ceremony. Please act surprised. And perhaps refrain from mentioning that we never enrolled or paid tuition.

For now, we will be attending the staff meeting with tired paws, big dreams, and very specific treat expectations. The Coffee Crossing drinks are for the humans. We require snacks and someone to count us in.

Help us name our cat dance team in the comments! 🏆😹

The Purrforming Arts?
Claws & Effect?
Three Cats, No Rhythm?

Choose carefully. Beth will have to hear it announced when we win.

🦷🐾 MYTH BUSTER MONDAY: THAT BREATH DESERVES ATTENTION! 🐾🦷

MYTH: “Bad breath is just part of having a dog.”

FELINE VERDICT: BUSTED!

The Cat Management Team understands that dogs enjoy some questionable snacks. However, if their breath arrives in the room before they do, please investigate.

Persistent bad breath can be a sign of dental disease or another health problem. It should not simply be dismissed as “dog breath.”

Watch for other clues, including:

🐾 Red or bleeding gums
🐾 Teeth covered in brown buildup
🐾 Drooling or dropping food
🐾 Changes in chewing or appetite
🐾 Pawing at the mouth

Your pet deserves a comfortable mouth, and covering up the smell with a treat will not address an underlying problem.

Harlow has requested fresh breath at all staff meetings. Ivy would prefer all meetings be canceled. Karma would like to clarify that “questionable snacks” is a very judgmental phrase.

If your pet has persistent bad breath, contact Blue River Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Porter can check their teeth and gums and recommend appropriate care.

And yes, cats need dental care, too. We attempted to remove that sentence during editing, but the humans put it back.

📸 Let’s see those smiles! Share a picture of your pet showing off their pearly whites, goofy grin, or most dramatic toothy yawn.

Feline Management will also accept closed mouth portraits from anyone concerned about their professional image. 😹

🐾💙 COMMUNITY SATURDAY: LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE MUSTANGS! 💙🐾

The Cat Management Team at Blue River Veterinary Clinic would like to recognize the Valley Heights Mustangs for a fall season that has been so much fun to watch!

Between football, volleyball, cross country, and cheer, these students have given our community plenty of reasons to stand up and make some noise. Their amazing talent extends into the stands and onto the halftime field with the band and dance team, too! 🎶🏈🏐🏃🧑‍🩰📣

And apparently, choosing just ONE activity was not on everyone’s schedule.

Some football players have traded their place in the game for a place in the marching band’s halftime show. Some cheerleaders have cheered and then danced in the halftime routine, and played in the band, with volleyball competition squeezed into the same week!

That means some of these students are tackling multiple activities in one week, and sometimes in one night.

Meanwhile, Karma needed a recovery nap after walking from the food bowl to the window.

Harlow respects the coordination required to get everyone where they belong. Ivy would like to know when these kids find time to knock things off counters. We explained that they have actual commitments.

Behind all that school spirit are hours of practice, hard work, teamwork, and families helping make it happen. To the athletes, cheerleaders, dancers, musicians, coaches, directors, and everyone supporting them: we see your effort, and we are proud of you!

Whether you are cheering from the bleachers, following a cross country course, applauding the halftime show, or supporting from home, keep showing up for these kids. They give our community so much to celebrate.

📸 Let’s turn the comments into a Mustang cheering section! Share a favorite fall sports or band photo, give a student or team a shout-out, or leave a big GO MUSTANGS!

Feline Management approves of the mascot. A large animal with strong opinions seems like excellent representation. 😹🐎

🌎🐈 GLOBAL CAT DAY: CAPTION THIS FRIDAY! 🐈🌎

Today is Global Cat Day, and the Cat Management Team would like to remind everyone that we have been celebrating ourselves daily. It is nice to see the calendar catching up.

To mark the occasion, here is a cat sitting high above everyone else, surrounded by collectibles and clearly aware of being the most valuable item on the shelf.

Harlow approves of the elevated seating. Karma wants to know where her collectible figure is. Ivy is calculating how many things could hit the floor with one gentle push.

Your Friday assignment: Caption this picture! 😹📸

Our starter caption:

“The little ones stay in their boxes because they haven’t earned the humans’ trust. Neither have I, but I have thumbs working for me.”

What is this shelf supervisor thinking? Give us your funniest caption in the comments!

As we celebrate our wonderfully opinionated feline friends, remember that every cat deserves kindness, care, and protection, including the community cats beyond our windows. 💙🐾

🐶💡 THE MORE YOU KNOW: WALK THE DOG! 💡🐶

The Cat Management Team would like to address something confusing: dogs voluntarily leave a comfortable couch to exercise.

We investigated. Apparently, there are benefits.

Regular walks help support your dog’s physical health, provide mental stimulation, and give you time together. A yard can be wonderful, but exploring beyond the same fence offers new sights, smells, and experiences.

Think of it this way: you have already read everything in your bathroom. Your dog would also appreciate some new material.

Walks give your dog opportunities to:

🐾 Keep moving. Regular activity helps support fitness and weight management.

🐾 Exercise their brain. Exploring scents and surroundings gives that busy nose something useful to do.

🐾 Spend time with you. A walk is a shared adventure with their favorite human.

🐾 Enjoy an outlet for energy. An appropriate mix of exercise and enrichment can help keep dogs happily occupied.

Harlow recommends assigning all walking duties to the humans. Karma supports any route that passes a treat stop. Ivy has asked why anyone would willingly answer the question, “Want to go outside?”

How far and how fast? That depends on your dog. Age, health, fitness, weather, and breed all matter. Let your dog’s comfort guide you, and ask Dr. Porter about an appropriate routine if you are unsure.

Now, what would your dog call their daily walk?

🐕 “Neighborhood Security Patrol”
🌳 “The Great Squirrel Investigation”
🐾 “Stop and Smell Absolutely Everything”
🏠 “A Brief Outing Before Returning to My Couch”

Give their walk a title in the comments, and share a picture of your walking buddy! 😹📸

🐾🧠 WEDNESDAY WISDOM: THE CARRIER SHOULD NOT BE A PLOT TWIST 🧠🐾

Humans, we need to discuss your timing.

You pull the cat carrier out of the closet five minutes before an appointment, then act surprised when your cat suddenly becomes unavailable.

We saw the carrier. We heard the car keys. We have relocated behind the washing machine.

Helping your cat feel comfortable with their carrier starts long before appointment day!

🐾 Leave it out with the door open. Put it somewhere your cat regularly spends time so it becomes familiar.

🐾 Make it inviting. Add soft bedding or a familiar blanket. Think cozy little retreat with excellent nap potential.

🐾 Offer treats or toys nearby, then inside. Let your cat explore at their own pace. Karma has volunteered to oversee this step indefinitely.

🐾 Practice gradually. Once your cat comfortably enters, work toward briefly closing the door, then short periods of carrying. Reward calm progress and take your time.

Harlow would like hers advertised as an executive travel suite. Karma requests a minibar. Ivy insists she will be submitting a review after inspecting the accommodations.

If travel still makes your cat anxious, contact Blue River Veterinary Clinic before your appointment so our human team can help you plan a more comfortable visit.

Now, what would your pet name their carrier or travel crate?

“The Royal Carriage”? “The Suspicious Snack Cabin”? “Absolutely Not Airlines”? 😹

Drop their official travel-company name in the comments. Feline Management will review all applications after boarding snacks are served.
