Welcome to the zoo Nash! After the loss of Otis we knew Ricky needed a companion and our animal care staff was working behind the scenes not only to ensure their wellbeing but to make this a success for both otters. Over the past few weeks they have been introduced together and now you can stop by and visit both of them!

Nash comes from the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo in Millbrook New York and he was transferred to us at the recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums North American River Otter Species Survival Plan. Known for their playful behavior, intelligence, and incredible swimming abilities, North American river otters are native to New York State and serve as important ambassadors for freshwater ecosystems and wildlife conservation.

We will be hosting a World Otter Day Celebration this Saturday, May 30th with special keeper chats, crafts and a raffle for a behind the scenes experience to meet both Ricky and Nash. Stop by the Carthage Savings and Loan Otter Creek Habitat from 10 am to 5pm to see the duo!

Happy Memorial Day from all of us here at the zoo. Today we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are open from 10am to 5pm with the last admission at 4:30. For active and retired military service members we are happy to offer a 20% discount on admission today and every day.
