The mounting block is not just where you get on. Riders can make these repeat training opportunities go wrong when we think too much like a human, not acknowledging our energy, posture, body language and timing. Because we mount up every day, it’s the exact place for little mistakes to start to add up. Then slowly we are creating a place for frustration that begins every ride. If you come to the mounting block with more self-awareness and willingness to make a training opportunity, it can start your ride on a much better path.

True schoolmasters aren’t easier to ride. True schoolmasters listen for the correct aids and then respond. Oftentimes it requires refinement and sensitivity to ride these horses. Thanks to Lolo’s owner for lending her!

Sharing - Our journey with Tristan Tucker, the TRT Method, groundwork and how it has transformed many horses and their relationships with their riders.

We are so thankful that a horse came along six years ago who required something different. Conventional methods we had learned to that point didn’t help this horse and training was unsafe at times. It feels right to follow science and implement strategies and exercises to make training more impactful and successful. The horses benefit.

Dressage dovetails well with groundwork. Both training methods are seeking lsuppleness, and balance. But, what happens when riding feels unsafe or the horse isn’t getting better? Or in circumstances when a rider can’t provide the energy, timing and pressure required to gain the horse’s calm attention? GROUNDWORK.

Today with hurricane weather dumping inches of rain and wind on the farm, we used groundwork training to unlock tension, connect horses who became disconnected in their bodies and remain safe despite the conditions.

The FEEL of the handler is more important than the exercises as we study the posture, attention, and releases from the horses. Because we had a great day today and leaned into science, the next few days and rides have a foundation.
