🌱 Community, Youth & Growth in Waterbury!

We were honored to welcome the Mayor of Waterbury to Urban Fresh Gardens’ Farm & Community Day, where he shared a few words with our youth, families, partners, and community members.

Moments like this show what Farm & Community Day is all about—bringing our community together, creating opportunities for young people, and continuing to grow something positive right here in Waterbury. 🌿

Thank you to the Mayor and everyone who came out and supported Urban Fresh Gardens!

What a great day it was at the Strive to Thrive Fair. It was a farm day for us. Youth are called to become the hope of the future. We have partnered with others to lead this change, and our road map of change comes from God.

We’re Not Just Growing Food — We’re Reculturing a Generation 🌱

At Urban Fresh Gardens, our work with young people can begin as early as middle school. But we're not simply teaching them how to plant a seed.

We're working to reculture the way our youth see agriculture—and the way they see themselves.

Agriculture teaches discipline. It teaches sequence: one step comes before the next. It teaches patience, responsibility, consistency, and the understanding that what you cultivate today may not produce results until later.

Our hope is that these lessons become more than something a young person learned in a garden. We want them to become part of their life experience—knowledge and values they can share with friends, pass on to the next generation, and one day teach their own children.

And Urban Fresh Gardens is only one piece of that work.

Rebuilding and reculturing our communities doesn't belong to one organization. Every organization, business, church, family, mentor, and neighbor can play a part.

We don't all have to do everything. We just have to do our part.

🌱 Cultivate the soil. Cultivate the mind. Cultivate the next generation.

We had a wonderful farm day at the waterbury police activity league. It was also a learning experience for the youth that attended. We had our animals on display for petting. They learned fermentation through canning and how to grow mushrooms on logs. Check out our star duck, Afro Duck!
