History of Blooming Grove Humane Society

Opened on June 19, 1987 for approximately $35,000.00 the shelter came to be after much hard work from then President Huguette Page. Who worked tirelessly with The Town of Blooming Grove and then Town of Blooming Grove Supervisor Nancy Calhoun. Within the first ten days of being opened, six dogs found their way into their forever homes. In the past Dr. James O’Connor would house the stray or abandoned dogs at his veterinarian’s practice on Rt.208, but he only had room for dogs. The new shelter enabled the Humane Society to now house cats, which were previously housed out of Ms. Having the shelter also allowed much of the community to become involved, and allowed for volunteers to help and socialize the dogs and cats. Service Provided

Provide dog licensing seven days per week
Assist the Police and Health Dept. in case of a dog bite
Provide a food pantry for pet food
Provide the Town of Blooming Grove,Village of Washingtonville, and South Blooming Grove with Animal Control

Murphy has left the building! He is such a quirky boy and it took someone who understood his unique personality to give him the home he deserves. Obviously he loves his new furmom! Have a great life Murphy! So happy for both of you!

Patty & Frenchie finally had their GOTCH DAY! They came to the shelter as kittens with their brothers who were adopted a few years ago. Patty and Frenchie were quite the divas, they weren't all that social and were mostly overlooked. We learned over the years that Churus made them (well Frenchie mostly) your best friend, Frenchie even started to let you pet her and check you out when you came into the cat room to see if you had Churus. Patty discovered the top of the cat tree where she became the greeter (WHO KNEW??) but that was the only place she'd let you pet her. They were finally noticed by a family that understood their quirkiness and decided that they were exactly the right fit for these two Kitty Queens. Here's our first update from their mom. Happy Gotcha Day Patty & Frenchie, you waited a long time for this and it was worth the wait.

"They were so shy at first, but now they're really enjoying the house. They are great cats, we're so happy to have them here".

Its that time of year again, time for the reminder, its going to be hotter than normal over the next few days so lets make sure we keep ourselves and our pets safe! Don't leave the pups outside for extended periods of time, they need a place to cool down so inside is best. Make sure all the pups and kitties (even outside kitties) have plenty of water, and with the pups try not to walk them in the hottest parts of the day and don't walk them on hot asphalt. And definitely DO NOT LEAVE THE PUPS IN THE CAR! Everyone please stay safe over the next few days! 🥵🏖️🍦🌞🐾

These 2 sets of sibling kittens just got here, they're not available for adoption yet but they would really like some wet kitten food and some pellet litter because they're kind of messy. They also have some doggie friends who would really like some Purina One Chicken & Rice wet & dry food. Thanks for all you do for us, we really appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone who attended our Petals & Paws Tea Party today! Everyone had a great time doing crafts together, sharing sandwiches and pastries and of course drinking their tea! Many thanks to all who put this event together, loaned us the fancy tea cups and donated the crafting supplies. Thank You to T&M Deli To Go and Charlotte's Tea Room for donating the food as well as Adams Fairacre Farms for donating towards desserts.
From “Pet” Adoptions to Framed Flower Artworks to Hand-painted Tote Bags and Fresh Flower Bouquets- everyone had something to take home but most importantly memories that will last forever!
A Special Thank You to Memorable Moments for making that possible and sponsoring the event space for this day.

***ADOPTION UPDATE*** From Chloe (formerly Anya) adopted way back in 2020! She's living her best life on the Delaware Coast with her human sister and mom. Her favorite place is her sister's room, she loves her night zoomies and has even reached a truce with the pup. We are so happy to hear that she is well and thriving! Thanks for checking in, Chloe! 😻
