Ever wonder why your kitty turns their nose up at a piece of cake? It’s not just them being picky—they are physically incapable of tasting it!

Cats are the only known mammals that completely lack the taste receptors for sweetness. Because they are "obligate carnivores" (meaning their bodies are strictly designed to thrive on meat), nature decided they simply didn't need the ability to taste sugars or carbohydrates.

So, what do they taste? They have specialized receptors for adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the compound that provides energy in animal tissues. In short: your cat tastes meat, fat, and savory flavors on a level we can't even imagine!

🍁 Happy First Day of Fall, Missouri! 🍁

Autumn is here, and while we are loving the cooler weather and the beautiful changing leaves, a new season also brings a few new safety hazards for our furry friends.

To keep your pups and kitties safe and cozy this autumn, keep these quick tips in mind:
🐾 Watch out for wildlife: Creatures like ticks, fleas, and rodents are looking for warm places to hide right now. Keep up with your pet’s preventative medications!

🐾 Keep paws away from pumpkins: While plain pumpkin is a great fiber boost, moldy porch pumpkins or sugary fall treats (like anything containing xylitol) can cause serious stomach upset.

🐾 Be mindful of mushrooms: Wild mushrooms pop up overnight in the damp fall weather. Keep a close eye on your dogs during your backyard or trail walks.

Did you know your cat’s whiskers have superpowers? 🐈✨

Most people know that whiskers help cats measure spaces, but did you know they have four rows of them? Even cooler: the top two rows can move completely independently from the bottom two rows!

Think of them like a highly sophisticated radar system. Your cat can adjust their top whiskers to scan for nearby objects while keeping the bottom ones steady to detect vibrations on the ground. This precision is why cats are such flawless jumpers and hunters.

Because whiskers are packed with sensitive nerve endings, they can sometimes get tired or sore from touching the sides of deep food bowls (a condition called "whisker fatigue"). If you notice your cat pulling food out of their dish to eat, try switching to a wide, flat saucer!

Today, we also want to pay a special tribute to the brave four-legged heroes of 9/11. Search and rescue dogs like Bretagne, Apollo, and Sage worked tirelessly alongside their handlers in the days following the attacks. They offered comfort, hope, and unwavering dedication during our country’s darkest hours.

To all the working dogs, therapy animals, and loyal pets who bring healing and safety to our lives: thank you. 🐾🇺🇸

September is all about celebrating our favorite feline friends! While cats have a reputation for being fiercely independent, they still need plenty of love, care, and attention to keep their purrs going strong
To kick off the month, here are 3 quick ways to make your home a five-star kitty resort:
📦 Level up their area: Cats love vertical space and hiding spots. Leave a few empty cardboard boxes around or clear off a high shelf to give them a perfect lookout tower.
💧 Keep the water flowing: Many cats prefer moving water over a stagnant bowl. Investing in a pet water fountain can encourage them to drink more and protect their kidney health!
🦖 Channel their inner hunter: Spend just 10 minutes a day using a wand toy or laser pointer to let them stalk and pounce. It keeps their minds sharp and their weight in check.

☕️🍂 MOVE OVER, STARBUCKS! THE PUPKIN SPICE LATTE IS HERE! 🍂☕️

The human pumpkin spice latte is back, but we think our patients deserve their own fall-favorite treat. 🐶✨

If your dog is begging for a sip of your morning coffee, skip the caffeine and whip them up this 100% vet-approved, 3-ingredient Pupkin Spice Latte at home!🛒

The Recipe:
2 tbsp of plain, 100% pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie mix!)
1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut milk, goat's milk, or plain oat milk
A pinch of cinnamon (skip the nutmeg, as it can be toxic to dogs!)
