Lucy says “IT HOT!” 🥵

It’s going to be another scorcher today, folks, so make sure you’re taking it easy and drinking LOTS of water!

Brachycephalic (flat-faced) dogs like Lu can have a harder time in higher temps, so make sure you’re paying attention to your dog’s needs and checking in frequently.

Have fun and stay cool! ☀️

“What have I done?” 🫥

Getting a puppy was great for the first couple of days. He slept in his crate so well! No accidents! He never barks! And then he settled in, felt a little more comfy in his new home, and all hell broke loose.

“He pees everywhere. He ate my most expensive shoes. He never stops barking. I think this dog is broken!!” - every normal puppy owner

Having a puppy is hard - you’re raising a baby of a completely different species! He has to learn the rules not just of your home, but of the world at large. Not to mention that the world is full of loud noises, strangers, and so much excitement. It’s a lot to take in!

Need help with your bundle of joy? Need help finding the joy in that bundle? We have your back! Shoot us a DM to talk about house training, crate training, leash manners, and simple obedience that will help your baby grow up strong!

And never forget: you’re doing great! 🩵

With heat advisories out across the DMV, how hot is TOO hot for outdoor adventures? This handy guide will@help@you decide how to play!

It’s 91°F in DC today, which means we’re taking lots of breaks on our walks and subbing in some indoor enrichment for our friends who need more stimulation. Cool (not ice cold!) water, shade, and stylish pair of booties is the recipe for fun when the temp rises.

Drink your water and have fun! 💦

When you brought your dog home, you were so excited for trips to the dog park, Bark at the Park nights, brunches at cute little city cafes. You expected enjoyable walks, day trips, taking your dog to the office now and again - “normal” dog stuff.

But then it turns out that __________. (Insert issue here, since every dog is unique.) Maybe he’s reactive. Maybe she has aggression toward men. Maybe he can’t walk on leash without strangling himself. Maybe she insists on eating every piece of garbage on the street.

I know that social media (as I post this on IG) is showing you picture after picture of “perfect” dogs but I need you to see past the curation of it all and understand: most dog owners struggle with unwanted behaviors that prevent them from living the life they expected. But! This doesn’t mean you can’t provide a fulfilling, exciting life for both you and your dog - it just might look a little different than you expected. 🩵

Let’s work together to build a plan for making your dog’s world as enriching as possible!

Pepita wants you to know she laid down, and it only took 10 tries 🐾

When working with your dog to learn a new command, patience is everything! We’re not going for speed, here, we’re going for retention. Even if it takes 10 tries, the big win of “Yes!” as you mark the command and treat sticks in their big doggy brain and makes each subsequent try a little easier.

Progress is the goal, not perfection 🥳 Make sure to celebrate EVERY win!

Catch us snoozin’ all weekend long 😴 (Ruby’s got the right idea)

Dogs need A LOT of sleep - about 18 hours a day! Especially if they’ve been active all week, there’s nothing wrong with a nap-filled weekend to catch up on rest.

How much sleep is too much?

If your dog is sleeping more than 18 hours a day, or they seem constantly groggy, “spacey,” or more interested in sleep than play or food, contact your vet to check in. There are lots of natural causes for lethargy in dogs, and they may need some support to get them back to baseline. A loss of energy is also natural as dog’s age, and there are lots of ways we can support our friends’ cognition as they age.

Happy napping! 🥱
