The logic of a Border Collie around water is a fascinating contradiction. They’ll sprint full speed into a muddy field, splash through puddles, or chase waves at the edge of a river like it’s their life’s purpose. Yet the second they hear the bathroom tap turn on, everything changes. Suddenly, they hesitate, stare suspiciously, and act as if this controlled stream of water is some kind of elaborate trap. It’s as if “working water” outdoors is part of their mission, but “bath water” indoors is completely against their highly intelligent plan. In true Border Collie fashion, it’s not drama—it’s a calculated decision that simply doesn’t make sense to anyone but them.

Said goodbye to my best friend - Shadow, 13 years old next March.
These are some of my first and last photos of my girl Shadow. She declined pretty rapidly and stopped eating last week and wasn't responding to any medications. As you all know, border collies aren't great at telling us when they feel bad, so I'm not even sure when she started feeling sick.
I rescued her when she was 3 and she was with me for almost 10 years. I called her Shadow because she followed me everywhere. She loved kids, playing fetch, bread, sleeping on her back, swimming, and playing in the sprinkler.

Boarding was almost complete when the man in seat 27C suddenly got angry.
“You’re letting that border collie dog on the plane? It’s filthy! It smells! I’m not sitting next to a dog for six hours!”
He pointed at Shadow—my six-year-old border collie dog—curled up quietly on the seat, barely moving.
He wasn’t wrong about the smell.
Shadow was covered in dust, his fur rough, his paw wrapped from injury.
He looked tired… beyond tired.
I took a breath and said,
“Sir, this border collie dog just spent 72 hours inside collapsed buildings after a disaster.
He helped find people who were still alive… and helped bring closure to families who lost everything.
We came straight from the field. He hasn’t had time to rest. He’s going home for medical care.”
Silence filled the cabin.
“He’s not filthy,” I added softly.
“He’s carrying the weight of what he just went through.”
The man’s expression changed. He didn’t say another word.
A few passengers nearby started clapping.
Then more joined in.
A flight attendant stepped forward, glanced at seat 27C, then looked at us and smiled.
“Would you mind if we moved you and your border collie dog to business class?”
I nodded, speechless.
Shadow curled up again the moment we sat down, finally able to rest.
As we settled in, the attendant gently leaned closer, gave him a soft pat, and whispered,
“Thank you for your service.”

This boy is 16 today. Wish him a good one 🤗❤️

My heart is so broken. Our boy has cancer, we didn't catch it in time and it progressed way faster than we thought it would. Osteosarcoma in the ribs, that metastisized to his heart quickly. He's bloated and swollen because of the cancer. Vet told us today to take him home, spoil the crap out of him and let the kids enjoy their time with him and say their goodbyes. We take him back in Monday evening to help him peacefully cross over the rainbow bridge. He's been the absolute BEST dog we could have ever hoped for, and 10 years of his unconditional love has brought our family so much joy. I just wish it could have lasted a little longer. 😔
So here's some pictures of him enjoying his first ever happy meal (vet recommended lol), I didn't move fast enough and he just took the fries right out of the carton. **he does not sleep in the garage, we brought his bed out there to keep the other two dogs from bombarding us and trying to steal his burger**
And then a couple pictures of him and I out in the front yard..soaking up the sun. It was always his favorite. I'd have to physically go out and bring him inside half the time because he didn't want to come in, which usually looked like me just chasing him around like a mad woman. 😂
Zero, you are the best boy...and if I could, I'd keep you with us forever.

Our beloved Bailey passed away tonight surrounded by loved ones. She was my best friend and I'm gutted. She was almost 14 and lived a good life. 😥
