✈️🐾 If you’re planning domestic travel with your pet, keep these important reminders in mind:

🐶 Most domestic health certificates are valid for 30 days, unless your destination or airline requires otherwise.

✈️ Check with your airline before scheduling your travel exam to confirm exactly what certificates, forms, documentation, or other requirements are needed.

📄 Have forms that need to be completed by our veterinary team? Please email them to UVC at least 72 hours before your scheduled travel exam so our team has time to review the requirements and prepare your paperwork.

Requirements can vary by airline and destination, so always confirm the most current information before you travel.

🚨 DC PET PARENTS: PLAN AHEAD FOR MAJOR TRAFFIC IMPACTS THIS WEEKEND! 🐾🏎️

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, DC takes place Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23, and significant street closures, parking restrictions and traffic changes are expected throughout the city.

If you have an upcoming appointment at Union Veterinary Clinic, Dupont Veterinary Clinic or Palisades Veterinary Clinic, please check your route before leaving home and give yourself extra travel time.

Even if your usual route doesn't take you directly through the race area, closures and detours may push additional traffic onto surrounding streets.

🚗 Before heading to your appointment:
• Check current street closures and parking restrictions
• Allow extra travel time
• Check garage access if you normally park downtown
• Consider Metro when practical for you and your pet
• If you're running late, please give your clinic a call so we know you're on the way

🚇 Taking Metro with your pet?
WMATA allows pets on Metrorail and Metrobus, but pets must be transported in a secure container from which they cannot escape. Service animals assisting people with disabilities are permitted without being confined to a carrier.

That means Metro may be an option for some of our smaller patients and their humans who want to avoid driving through affected areas. 🐶🐱

📸 Meet Pookie! 🐱💙

One of our favorite parts of what we do is getting to know both our patients and the wonderful people who love them.

Claire started bringing her cat, Pookie, to Union Veterinary Clinic last year, and we were so excited when she shared these adorable photos with us! Pookie has a dental procedure coming up soon, and we're happy to report he's a big fan of his veterinarian, Dr. David Massre. 🦷✨

Regular dental care is an important part of keeping our feline friends healthy and comfortable. Healthy teeth don't just mean fresher breath—they can help prevent pain, infection, and other health issues.

Traveling internationally with your pet? Don't forget to schedule an International Health Certificate (IHC)! This USDA-accredited document verifies your pet meets the entry requirements for your destination country.

🐾 IHC appointments should be scheduled within 10 days of your pet's travel. Some countries require additional testing or paperwork, so plan ahead!
