🎂 Today marks an incredible milestone—90 years of caring for the pets of Washington, DC! 🎉
Since opening our doors on October 16, 1936, Friendship Hospital for Animals has been honored to serve generations of beloved cats, dogs, and their families. 🐱🐶

Dialysis Queen 👑✨ Rory is a 9y Lab who has reached her 100th dialysis session this week! She has been on chronic dialysis for about a year now which has resulted in her being able to maintain a great quality of life.

Rory presented to the Friendship Nephrology team last fall where she was diagnosed with end stage renal failure secondary to a kidney infection and was started on dialysis. She was diagnosed with renal dysplasia when she was younger. This is a developmental problem of the kidneys that results in dogs being born with decreased kidney function and can progress over time. Unfortunately, her kidneys could not regain enough function for her to come off dialysis. Because of this life-saving treatment and her mom's dedication, Rory has been able to do all of the things she loves most!!

Some of her favorite things include popcorn, watermelon, strawberries, playing in the snow, and carrying a ball or plastic bottle in her mouth.

She is a true dialysis warrior! We love you, Rory!!

When you make an emergency plan for your family, do you remember to include your four-legged members? 🐾

September is National Preparedness Month, and it’s a good reminder to make sure your pets are included in your plans for the unexpected. Know where you could safely take them if you need to evacuate, keep identification and microchip information current, and have a pet emergency kit ready with essentials like food, water, medications, veterinary records, a leash or carrier, and first-aid supplies.
