We're so excited to welcome Dr. Brian Stewart as our Chief Operating Officer! Brian brings nearly three decades of specialty and emergency veterinary experience - from starting on the hospital floor as a vet assistant to building a career that has spanned senior clinical and operational leadership across some of the nation's largest veterinary organizations. As a locum emergency vet, Brian also continues to stay connected to the day-to-day realities of the hospitals he serves.

We're thrilled to have him supporting our teams, to help advance animal health through our unified network.

Congratulations to Christine and Roselle at VERG Brooklyn, named joint recipients of the ASPCA Heroes in Human Services Award through the ASPCA Community Engagement Program. 🏆

This recognition honors the exceptional care they provided to a client facing a terminal illness while navigating difficult decisions about her beloved pet, Cecilia.

Roselle went well beyond her role as a client service representative - bridging language barriers, coordinating transportation to appointments, and ensuring the client felt heard and supported throughout.

As a Veterinary Social Worker, Christine brought her full commitment to client-centered advocacy - supporting Cecilia, her owner, and the VERG team at every turn.

This standard of care is what sets the VERG team apart, not only within their Brooklyn community but on the national stage.

World Veterinary Day is observed each year on the last Saturday of April - and this year's theme, "Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health" speaks to the full scope of what the veterinary professional protects 🌾 🐄 🥛

Beyond the day-to-day patient care that our hospital teams provide, veterinarians are on the front lines of food safety, zoonotic disease prevention, and public health infrastructure. A reminder that the work happening inside our hospitals connects to something much bigger🌍

If there's one role that truly holds specialty and emergency vet med together, it's the client service team — and we don't say that lightly.

These incredible professionals are the ultimate multitaskers, seamlessly managing everything from phones, front-desk operations, check-in and checkout, payment processing, and medical record management - often all at once! They're also the calm, compassionate voice on the other end of the line when a family is terrified, the steady presence at the front desk during life's most stressful moments, and the bridge between clients and our clinical team.

The path to get there isn't easy, either. The training is rigorous - understanding complex workflows, scheduling logistics, phone triage protocols (and more!) - and demands a combination of organizational skill, emotional intelligence and unflappability.

The RACE-approved Continuing Education event offered lectures and hands-on labs across specialties including Cardiology, Dentistry, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Urology, Neurology, Oncology, Radiology, and Surgery 🩺🐾
