Our area is still in a severe drought, despite finally getting some rain last week. Most hay farmers around us had 30% less yield from their first cuttings last week.

Normally our pastures can sustain full grazing from April until October but they aren’t recovering. Yesterday I began to feed hay to one group- and it’s still May. I’m surprised at the volume they are eating with the field access still open.

Typically my spring fed pond flows until July/August… and that outflow dried up weeks ago with receding banks.

And… Currently zero rain on the 10 day forecast….
